I have seen Hobart generators at some of the tool shops in the area. Are they in any way related to the Hobart that has brought us all the industrial kitchen tools and hardware? Or are they about as related as Mercury Marine to Mercury automobiles! I am also thinking they could be "nameplate engineered", meaning they just carry the fancy nameplate, but the actual manufacture is done by a lesser company.

My thought is if they are in fact related to our beloved Hobart and "home grown" , they'll probably be pretty well built...just like the early KitchenAid stuff has been when Hobart owned them!

It appears that both Hobart welders/generators and kitchen equipment were founded by C.C. Hobart...the food service equipment business was founded first:

Today both Hobart Bros. welders and Hobart food service equipment are owned by Illinois Tool Works (ITW)

In a book about Hobart of Toledo, OH, the industrial side is emphasized. With all of their welding experience and equipment, Hobart was a big name in the prefabricated porcelainized steel homes that were becoming popular just before and just after WWII. The building trades with their influence on writers of local codes killed these because they used so much less labor.

In later years, Hobart was losing money and had no one in the family to take over so it was sold off.
