Whilst I was posting about the Hotpoint I thought I may as well make a thread for this machine as well.

We actually picked this machine up in January from Merthyr Tydfil of all places! Have been using it for about a month or so as a daily driver and I absolutely love it!

There are, however, a few issues I have not yet been able to fully resolve which I was hoping some kind people on here may be able to help us out with :-)

First a few pictures....

Option buttons...

Very flexible for a machine of it's time! This model was manufactured June 1988.

Programme selector...

Here you can see one of the first issues the machine has, the timer is out of sync! The pointer should be on the Spot after G, however as you can see it is a couple of clicks out, we have worked out where the programmes are, but it would be much better if we could realign it, does anyone know how to?

Time Line

I had one of these and I loved it too, mine was white and i had a matching dryer.

To re-set the time cursor, you will need to take the programmer off (three screws two on the top and one underneath) once you have moved this back away you will see three toothed pulleys with the cursor band around them.
The band is toothed and what you need to do is in effect move it over the toothed pulleys to the correct position, BUT you must not move the centre pulley from its position as this lines up with the shaft on the timer, so gently pull the band down awayfrom the middle timer pulley and move it in which ever direct it needs to go to line up.

If any of that make sense then good, if not ask me again

Further issues...

Aside from the one mentioned above, there is also the slight problem that the indicator lights appear to be wired up wrong, so they light up that the machine is washing, rinsing and heating simultaneously when it's actually on final spin, for example! The lights are not flush with the fascia either, so I can only assume that they have been off the machine at some point and put back wrong. Does anyone know how to get the fascia off and/or have a copy of the wiring diagram so that I know how it should be installed?

Probably the main issue at the moment is that the water level on wash seems far too low, no water is visible in the drum at all on low level wash, and to fill the machine to the same low level as my grandad's Ecologic (just above the rim of the drum) takes between 3 and 6 full kettles of water depending on the size and absorbency of the load! This is after the machine has filled and topped up itself. If left to it's own devices the load isn't always fully saturated by the time it finishes heating and it sometimes continues to top up after temperature has been reached! I am assuming this is either a problem with the pressure switch or the pressure pot, but not really sure how to resolve it. The rinse water levels are the usual 1/3-1/2 up the door.

The drum is not twisted, and the suspension is very smooth, however there is very little space at the back of the drum, and the drum only has to move about an inch or 2 directly back before it bangs into the back panel. Is this normal on these machines? If not how would it be rectified?

Finally when we got the machine home it needed a new belt, as the old one was frayed, this has made the machine sound much smoother and tumble much faster, but occasionally there is still an intermittent scraping/grinding noise from the motor. The seems to be plenty of length left on the brushes and the armature looks in fine order. The tub bearings are fine and the motor bearings turn smoothly yet there is still this intermittent motor noise. It has become less and less frequent with use but it is still there every now and then. Any ideas what could be causing this?

So that's where we are at the moment, as you can see we really need a lot more experience in these things before we can sort the machines out ourselves. This one does still run through a programme just fine, albeit with a little help in the way of extra water being added to the wash, but we would really like to get in in the best condition possible, since we want to continue using it as a daily driver.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer in advance!

Matt

Water Level

First thing is check the float bowl on the back of the tub to make sure it is not blocked, if you can get to it and remove it then ok if you cant ask and i will help you out.

The lights might just be the edge connector on the pcb are not on correctly

Thanks Gary!

Thats exactly what I needed to know, have located the screws to remove the programmer, but will need a longer, slimmer screwdriver to access them.

Is the float bowl the white plastic pot between the thermostats with the yellow tube running to it? If so I have removed the tube and the clips on the black rubber tube that connects it to the tub but still cannot get it off, there is a lot of mineral deposit around it so hopefully once it's removed and cleaned all will be well again!

Thanks again!

Matt

Screws

Hello Mat

When you get a suitable screwdriver try and get a magnet and magnatize it makes putting in screws in akward places a lot easier

Yes thats the float bowl they are sods to get off and also undoing the white plastic crocodile clamps is a sod without breaking them. if you do break them i just use jubilee clips

if it does look crudded up then it is best to take it off and clean it out with bits of wire running water etc.

I shall bear that in mind

I guessing then it's just a case of yanking the float bowl hard enough that it comes off? It feels like its connected to the tub by something inside the black rubber tube.

Bowl

Yes once you have disconnected the clamps you have gently twist it back and forth and pull back, you are right there is a plastic tube inside the rubber one.

I have on occasions snapped this getting it off, in wich i removed it all and just connected the float bowl with the rubber tube only without any problems

Right...

Had to stop this afternoon as a friend came over, but I'm off work again tomorrow too so I shall finish the job then! Will update on how it goes! :)
