Agree with Austin and Bertrum. The good thing with old machines is that generally, when they fail, the issue is fairly simple to rectify.
The Hotpoint 95's are very good machines - reliable and long lived. It would be a shame for it to be pensioned off if it is something so simple as worn down motor brushes, or even simpler - a detached or snapped drive belt.
If, prior to its recent issues, it had been working perfectly well then I would definitely attempt a repair.
