Wow, been a lot of postings about the Calypso's lately, so I decided to get a set. Found out that REX Appliance had a few of them left over and went there. Had to go to four different stores to finally find a set.

Jeff says "this thing aint right". Then he said, Steve, this looks like that Old Kelvinator thing, in meaning the way it agitates and the "Magic Minute". I said yes, but it's the magic 1 hour! LOL.

Glenn: Big thanks about the lid switch, I put my toggle in the rear of the machine.

Here are a few pics.

For anyone interested, the Kenmore version of the Calypso is still showing up at the Sears outlet stores. About $700. The Orlando store has 4 of them, all unused.

Hi Steve,
Congratulations on your new Calypso set; I always liked the style of the Calypso and credit to Whirlpool for designing an energy efficient Top Loader.
I hope they give you many years happy washing and drying.

David

Congrats on your new set. I'm sure you will enjoy them as much I plan to enjoy mine.

Do they have the Kenmore Calypso dryer? I would like to have one that matches my washer.

Future Collectable

I do think that the Calypso will be a future collectable, because of the unusual wash action. And that they can be repaired. Also mentioned was a simple mechanism. I think the spin is pretty fast, so overall the efficiency is pretty high.

The other future collectable is that Maytag TL that was made for a few years, I think a few AW members have those too.

Congrats on your new set! They are nice looking machines!

Holy cow on the water level on that load! It looking like there is a good amount of water in there! I have never seen that much water in Calypso! Video!!

Steve, very nice they do have the bling don't they, nothing plain, about them, best of luck with them. Is that a water softner in the line up? Thats on my wish list too. alr2903

The water level is only deceptively high...the Calypso only holds about 4 - 5 gallons of water. As it washes, the water builds up in the tub as the machine pumps it in faster than the water can drain through the clothes out the bottom of the tub and back into the holding tank, so the soapy water solution can really penetrate through the clothes as it drains through them. The wash plate moves the clothes around under the waterfall and turns them top to bottom. Works pretty well.

Great set, Steve! I wasn't at all interested in the Calypso until Glenn and others started posting pics and video. They have a very interesting wash action.

As for buying another pair and leaving them in the box: Do it! Can you imagine what a collector will pay for a MIB Calypso in 10 years? The only other TL'er that can rival these for being rare is the TL Maytag Neptune, no?

Awesome!!!

Steve,
That is sooo cool that you bought a MIB set!
They look great in your garage! I am sure that you will love the performance! I think it is a fantastic washing design. You just have to wash like items, with like items.
Do tell us your results on your cleaning test!
Your garage looks so clean and spotless!!!
Thanks for the pictures!
I know that Jeff is having fun watching this washer going through the cycles!!! What will be his new toy since you got this set?
Brent

Congratulations!

It would be nice to see some videos especially of how the elevated wash-plate works.

Thanks.
