Ok, so I've been here in Texas now for a month at my Friend Dan's house. He has a whirlpool dishwasher, DU1300TX. His hot water is super hot. He jus opened the dishwasher to unload what I washed earlier. I used Normal cycle and heated dry. The detergent was Cascade gel. When I loaded the dishwasher earlier today, Dan was having a fit that I was not prewashing and rinsing. I told him that This dishwasher will clean it, don't worry about. I only filled the main wash detergent cup. Well, the plates came out with a glaze on them, the bowls, which had grits in them for breakfast were not clean. I think it's the fact that he's buy Cascade. I had a problem with food left on my dishes in Port St. Luice using Cascade and switched to Electrosol/finish and problem solved. Water hardness here is medium, just as it was in Florida. So, right now he's a little pissed at me. I just washed the entire load by hand and let him load (which he does an aweful job of). He also told me to stop using he Normal wash cycle and use Pots and Pans for every load.

What do you guys think?

Pots & Pans with high-temp. If the water is super hot, there's no extended wash time to help with cleaning. It's probably non phosphate Cascade, which is some of the worst dishwasher detergent now. Since the dishes are clean when he puts them in, he's going to cause the racks to rust and the seals in the machine to wear out because the detergent is attacking the racks and the seals of the machine. Unless Cascade's formula is drastically changed of what it is currently, I won't buy any Cascade when I end my stockpile of phosphated Cascade. I'll get Finish Quantums.

POOR CLEANING WP DW

Always put detergent in both cups and I find it is usually better to use two different brands and or types in every load. I try to use an enzyme product in the pre-wash and if possible a chlorinated detergent in the main wash with phosphates either built in or added.

It's that NON-phosphate stuff. The longest the main wash (after despensing detergent) has gone is for 32 mins. Most times it only runs for 26 mins. I hear of yours going much longer and that's why I question you alot. His machine and your machine have the exact same wash system. I asked him what his hot water heater is set at and he said to leave it alone, he likes it that way. So anyway, he leaves again in two weeks, I'm gonna go and get a bottle of the Finish gel and rerun my test. I truely think that will help. Personally I like powder, but, well, it's not my machine or house.
