I recently purchased a home and inherited a KDI-57. Upon trying to run it a few times, the washer has failed to drain. The wash cycle appears to start spraying, but ends abruptly and the soap never dissolves. Then when the whole run is done, water remains in the bottom and I have to bail it all out.

Is there something I am doing wrong? Has anyone had similar issues, and is this fixable?

Thanks!

When you say "ends abruptly", do you mean the main wash motor just stops?

Do you hear the drain valve opening? The valve makes a fairly loud snapping noise when it opens.

I will clarify: At the start in the soak and wash cycle, you can hear water rushing in. Then it stops for a bit and emits a loud humming noise. Then more water comes in, and goes back to a loud humming before it goes to the wash cycle. During the wash cycle, more humming is heard but no spraying. At some point this stops, and all you hear is the ticking of the dial. This persists for the remainder of the run, leaving water up to the door when it finishes as it never drains. So, I'm assuming the main wash motor never even kicked on?

Non draing KA DW

Yes it does sound like the main motor is trying to run but stuck. Take off the lower panels of the DW and look at the motor, if it appears that it is all corroded at the top you probably have a main seal leak and a locked up motor. [ big expensive repair ]
