Lets see the Cabrio!

After Jason's video on the Oasis, Here is my video showing how the Oasis's twin the Cabrio turns over with proper loading and cycle. Don't mind the loud noise in the back ground its the furnace turning on and off.

Cycle: Towels & Sheets Modifiers: normal soil, cold wash(70f) cold rinse, high speed spin
Items: 6 full sized bath towels, 4 khaki type pants, a few pairs of under garments and socks, 2 full size bed sheets, 2 pillow cases, and I threw in an additional sock to show the turn over
Water level was determined by weight in the wash tub and stopped filling as soon as the tub started to float.
Detergent: Tide HE Powder

During the cycle, the machine recirculates the water and adds some hot water to keep the water temp at an optimum for stain removal.

Very cool! There seems to be quite a bit more water in that machine that I've seen in videos of Jason's Oasis. I'm guessing it's part of the Sheets & Towels cycle?

Sheets and Towels uses alot more water and has more drama than the other cycles. You can use it for anything but it doesn't work too good with a small load.

What a coincidence!

I just posted my own Oasis video a couple of minutes ago! A smaller load than Bobby's, but still shows the rollover quite well.

The trick with the Cabrio/Oasis is to load the tub just like you would a unitmatic or any type of GM machine. Load it in sections almost balled up. This makes the spacing better to allow more water to pass through the clothes, virtually no tangling, and much greater rollover!

The way I load my Oasis is just dump the basket in! I find everything still gets washed, and clean too. I load towels and sheets like there was an agitator in the middle. No problems with rollover or water circulation for me.

Yes the reverse rollover is mind blowing... when I first saw it in demonstration at our training, I thought that there was something trying to come up through the middle... others thought that is was like... not gonna go there ;-)

Jason, what do you use for a small load? I find that small loads just swish back and forth, unless its on bulky bedding where the wash plate senses weight for proper water level, or dark colors where a little more cold water is used...

Load sensing for Sheets & Towels is different from that in the other cycles where the machine showers the clothes, spins and weighs, where as in S&T's it starts pretty much as soon as the tub floats, and adds water throughout the cycle to ensure proper water levels.

I don't think that the wash plate "weighs" the load, but it does measure the resistance on the plate when it rotates, kinda like F&P SmartDrive. Sheets and Towels doesn't start when the tub has lifted; is starts when the washer has determined that the resistance on the wash plate has lessened so that damage to articles won't occur once it starts washing. Thats why this washer sometimes adds water to the cycle after it starts; the motor sets fast agitation so that it can "feel" the load to make sure it is at the right water level, and resumes normal speed after it does a final adjustment and check. Have you ever noticed that the rinse level for Sheets/Towels is lower than the wash level?

The Cabrio is programmed a tad bit differently then the Oasis. Resistance was the word that I was looking for instead of weighing. LOL The water level in the Cabrio on rinse is the alot lower then that of the washing, but it only rinses for 2 minutes drains and slowly, slowly spins and sprays for about 20 seconds... But say on bulky bedding, the rinse is the same level and twice as long as sheets and towels...

And when the tubs floats in the Cabrio on S&T's, it starts almost immediately, runs for about 10 seconds, stops and adds more water if it thinks it needs it.

I liked the quality of videos at a site called vimeo.com, but it wouldn't let me post a video longer than about 2 mintues. BUT, they had great advice on how to format one's video for higher quality. They suggest not using any of Google's preset compression modes.

Go to vimeo.com/guide:upload and there should be a guide to follow. I printed out the one for Macs and it is idiot-proof. I use iMovie and an iMac, but I'm sure they have info for PCs, too. I format it the way they suggest for high quality, then I post the video at YouTube.

7 pairs of jeans on "Bulky Items" what I don't like about most of the other cycles is that the motor slows down agitation after a minute or so and rollover almost stops... This is why I like S&T's so much

Comparisons

I notice the Cabrio is quieter than the Oasis. It reminds me of the sound of my original Maytag with helical drive. Both Oasis I have heard on the Yotube make a whine sound and the wash plate clacks at the end of it's travel. Are they designed differently? Why do they sound different. Go listen to Jason's posts. It sounds the same as Jason's.

Now it works!

When I saw th video of the Oasis I though that system won't ever work...too low water leve and not effectively roll-over...

Looking now at the Cabrio I can say it "may" work, I see a right amount of water (obviously not so hihg like in a traditional TL!), and a very good roll-over action, it seems really the landry tumble like in a FL...Oh dears! A FL is anyway another question!

Beyond the Cabrio

If you click next video after viewing Bobby's excellent Cabrio presentation, you will see some stock footage of a washer with a bottom impeller spinning both with and without textiles of some sort. After that is a Staber video with the end panel of the tank replaced with Lucite or something to show how turbulance is created when the tub tumbles. Maybe everyone has already seen these, but I thought they were interesting and wonder what kind of a machine is shown with the blue & white impeller in the first 3 videos.

Eeeeesh... Sorry, guys, I still don't like it. The speed and the sheer force of the wash plate on the clothes! It can't be gentle.

Does anyone know the physics of this reverse rollover? What is so different here from an agitator F&P washer that causes this action? Why would rollover be "normal" in the agitator version of this washer while the wash plate rollover is reversed?
