Ahhhg, before using that machine I would run the strongest sanitizer available to mankind through it, twice.
At animal shelters they run poopy blankets through the machines, and all kinds of surgical linens. The stuff that is washed in there is quite vile.

At our shelter we had a Whirlpool Duet. It was SO inadequate for the amount of laundry we had. They finally got a 50lb UniMac machine and dryer. They could probably use another one. But nomatter how dirty the laundry goes in, the UniMac always gets it clean!

looks like a fun job to get your teeth into. I take it the whole drum has to be taken out and split in half to access the bearings/ drum shaft.

Would be interested to see the guts of this beast as there are too many of them this side of the pond.

Interesting.

The Maytag Neptune is one of only 2 FL domestic-grade washers I like. My Undergrad school had one of these in each laundry room in addition to some Maytag Dependable Care Commercial TL washers. I always liked the sound these Neptunes made when going into spin. They had to put up with a LOT of abuse from students and they really came through.

induction motor

looks like that neptune has an inverter driven induction motor
while my 1999 neptune has what is basicly a large stepper motor
-complete with toothed rotor.As mentioned above,has cool,
almost cartoonish sound revving up for spin-kinda like the
"tasmanian devil"revving up LOL.
wonder if the induction motor is because of the newer year or
a commercial/domestic difference...

I think that changes the mode. I have found no ON/OFF switch on this machine. There is run mode and program mode. Program mode is where the parameters for the cycles can be changed. Run mode just allows the machine to operate I believe. I got it from a local appliance/repair shop that sells Whirlpool consumer products. Most likely it was replaced by a DD machine or a Duet, either choice is not adequate for an animal shelter.

Thanks for reminding me on that. It will get a thorough cleaning before it is put back together and used.

Don't worry about that. There will be lots of pictures. There is quite a bit of disassembly involved. This machine is next in line to be worked on. Because of the level of disassembly, it will have to be done in the basement. Currently the basement is being used for a much bigger, more involved project. I will reveal what I have been up to later.

I think Andrew(redcarpetdrew) has worked on many of the Neptunes. Maybe he knows about the different motor/control boards units that were used in the Neptunes.

This machine does need serious work, but the bright side is that it is home now and I don't have to worry about people ripping wires and boards out of it. I'm going back to my laboratory now.
