Loving the GE Potscrubber!

With an upgraded pump and motor assembly, new water valve, and a thorough clean and polish, she's finally installed! This replaced my pathetic, modern Whirlpool. I love the power it has and the changeable color panels. It fits in nicely with my vintage Tappan double wall oven!

Congratulations. My favorite and best performing dishwasher I've ever had in my life. Over the years, the cycle labels were changed. On mine, from left to right the cycles were PotScrubber, Normal Wash, Light Wash, Energy Saver, China Crystal, Rinse & Hold, and Cancel Reset. At some point, the names were changed to Potscrubber, Heavy Wash, Normal Wash, Light Wash, China Crystal, Rinse & Hold, and Cancel Reset. the cycles I usually used were Light Wash, Potscrubber, and Energy Saver Wash. My Light Wash was pretty much the equivalent of what most brands of the day called Normal Wash and soil removal was outstanding. I bought mine 2 months before you were born and had it for 19 years.

Keith, nothing was wrong with it. I was gifted with a new dishwasher, to match the new fridge I had to get, by some very good friends I'd helped out quite a bit during some challenging times.

My current 5 y/o Kenmore Elite (KitchenAid) rivals the GSD1200 in cleaning ability with its microClean filter and 360 degree power wash arm and actually holds a bit more than the GSD1200. I still miss the rapid advance timer though.

That's understandable.

I have a special appreciation for the auto-advance GEs. I don't know why. I think there were only two GE models that were.

Correct me if wrong: there was one in the 70s and then the late 70s one that went through to the 90s.

Have always had a soft spot for GE "Pot Scrubber" dishwashers.

The 1200s are fabulous aren’t they! I have an older Potscrubber III (in storage at the moment unfortunately) that was one step down from the Rapid Advance TOL. Very similar features wise...there’s just something charming about that console set up with the little viewing window. Hopefully it brings you many years of happy dishwashing!

Sweet dishwasher!  I've got a soft spot for the Potscrubbers, also. My folks had one of the MOL models in 1978 and it was still working (OK, I had to do a couple of repairs...) in 2006 and was sold at auction when my Dad gave up his hobby farm.  I had a 1988 model in my first house, too.   I thought they were great dishwashers and longed to have the integrated-timer all-pushbutton model like yours!  Happy dishwashing!!

My parents had the 1985 2800.
In later years it developed a low volume squeal from the wash arm going around every second.

I replaced their still working 2800 with a 1995 KA Superba in 1999.

That Aussie commercial--were those a local design/manufacture, or did they come in from Europe?

Hi Jamie,

That Aussie machine was a Vulcan Dishlex Mark 7 with Potscrubber drag attached. They were locales made, but based of a SMEG design.

There was an earlier version of this machine, that looked almost identical, but it was different to the US machines and not based on any other design I’ve ever seen.

There were also the US designed machines and some rebadged Japanese machines. It seemed that GE in Australia would stick a badge on anything.
