I have the latest generation Whirlpool front loader, with the "Load & Go" feature, which I never use. Like to know the best detergent with the fewest suds. I use "Extra Rinse" on every cycle, and always have the residual foam. Any thoughts on the best cleaning pods/powder/liquid with the least suds? Thanks!

George, I have the 1st generation Duet with the Precision Dispense. I had been using powders (Tide He with bleath and Cheer) until about 1.5 years ago and went to liquids. Largely to make it easier for my partner to use the Precision Dispense. I use Tide Ultra Stain Release. I had tried Persil and it foamed so bad I got suds errors. How soft is your water? What are you using? What model did you get?

Hey Bob...

It's a WFW5620 from Blowe's...this house does have a water softener, so I suspect that's the problem, so to speak...when I purchased the house a year ago, I bought one of the low-end GE top loaders, also from Blowe's...great machine if your clothes are dirty, it beats the hell out of everything...previously had an LG in my condo, with the "Water Plus" option, great machine, no water softener, good rinsing...it's hard to find powders here Tom, but maybe that's an idea, thanks.

Settings

Have you checked to see if the Precision Dispense settings are set for soft water? Some of the machines allow you to change the water hardness to either soft, moderate, or hard if I remember correctly.
I use Tide USR or Tide OXI, plus STPP, and the extra rinse as well, and we do not have any visible suds at all. Honestly, there aren't many suds in the first rinse either.

Lakewebster, the current generation doesn't allow adjustments with consideration to water hardness/softness as the Precision Dispense system did. User can only adjust the concentration level.

@lovestowash

I have the 6620 model whirlpool and I changed the concentration level after a whore of a time with towels and a suds lock!
Contacted Tide about it, they said their concentration levels were changed but the cap dosage is in line with the change. That being said P&G never did say if it went from 2 to 3 or 4 so I'm trying the concentration on 3 right now in the machine, it seems to do much better, I may change it to 4 just to see what happens with cleaning.I also use vinegar in the bleach dispenser and the extra rinse I do manually as I find it uses more water and have seen better results. I have relatively soft water so dosage for me using a liquid has always been an issue using a front loader. I'm dosing the towels on my own judgement and I'm using the Tide purClean unscented. To change the concentration number on the machine on my model I have to press soil & temp at the same time.
Good Luck :)

Since good HE powders are increasingly harder to find, typically I add a tbs of STPP, then follow it up with enough Tide HE or Persil HE liquid detergent to maintain a very low level of suds.

This is for both a Neptune 7500 front loader (2000 vintage) and a Miele 1986A.
