Is that what they were called?

Top-Loading Maytag Neptune washers with the 2 discs inside that counter-rotate?

Or was there another name to them besides 'Neptune'????

Neptune TL. The discs rotate in the same direction, not counter-wise.

Nice Collection Gary! These were not as classic as center Dials, but were 10,000 times better than when Maytag sunk its boat with Norge, Admiral and Tragic Chef in the 90's.

Gorgeous set!! The washer is identical to the center dial machines with the exception of the console and its related components (switches, timer, buttons, ect). TOL machines like this set have a few more options than the TOL center dial counterpart but I'm not bias between either as I own and operate both generations. As long as it contains the older Newton drive tranny, you can't go wrong and it'll last forever!!

I love how these Maytags are able to automatically UN-suds lock 99% of the time.
How do they know? the pressure sensor?

Well, most modern-day machines both Front-Load and Top-Load have the capability to un-sudslock if one occurs. My Kenmore Elite Oasis with agitator can do it but it has never sudslocked before. We have never sudslocked any of our 3 washers that we've owned even once. This is because we measure our detergent with the cap before it goes in.

Great Thread! Maytags were the smartest machines in the world. Shame on Whirlpool for bastardizing them and getting rid of the Dependable Care design. Nice pictures. Good luck with the machines, you won't need it, but good luck.

Where in the world did you find them?

Happened to find them from a Craigslist listing. I was actually the second person to respond. I was very lucky because the first person could not negotiate a deal with the seller due to a timing issue. When I went to see them prior to picking them up last Sunday, I knew I had to have them since I saw that turquoise powerfin and thought 'helical drive'. Upon more comments from site members, I learned that these machines were TOL and one of the last made with the powerfin agitator.

Thank you mixfinder for introducing me to Craigslist.

Yes

It has the turquoise powerfin with helical drive. This set was 1980.

What is the estimated date of manufacture for the machines that I got last week? I guess newer than yours???

Do you have close-up shots of the control panels for the washer and dryer to see what the buttons and dial settings are?
