Maytag Maintenance

<span style="font-size: medium;">As some of you may know, I'm the proud owner of a minty fresh A 107 courtesy of Yogitunes. Since last fall, the Maytag has been working beautifully with the exception of a very minor repair to the timer. After each use, it gets wiped down. It's filter and softener cup rinsed and the lid left open for it to air dry. </span>

 

<span style="font-size: medium;">Since the washer turned 38 years old this month. I was wondering what sort of preventive maintenance I should be undertaking. For example, preventing gunk to form from detergents and fabric softeners. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!</span>

Congrats on your find...you seen the matching dryer DG106 at the Wash -In!!..it says Hi!!

<span style="font-size: medium;">Thanks Jerry. I do remember seeing your dryer at the wash-in. It's gas right? In the near future I am getting a dryer. Would be nice to get a matching one, but I'd have to convert it to 115V. I'd have to switch out the heating element for a lower voltage one. Beyond my expertise for now. Normally I would think for a Washer of that age...and or use....you would change belts and hoses....but considering this one really was not used......I would go with just to do a good going over, pull front cover off, and check the hoses, clamps, belts, wiring....look for signs of rotting and cracking...even check behind the control panel.....and replace anything before it happens.....don't expect you to find much, but always good to be safe...

Its only owners of use have been you and me.....not that softner can't build up in the FS cup and agitator.....but I doubt anything has really been built up just yet......

just run your hand or a cloth under the splash shield to see if anything has been building up in these areas....that would be a first clue to a thorough cleaning needed.......

one thing I would do is apply a good wax to the cabinet and top, and any exposed areas.....even inside the cabinet for protection.....
