Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Not to worry, Phil, I have a bunch of two-speed Inglis/Whirlpool motors if you wind up needing a replacement.

That sounds like my grandmother's 1970 KM 70.  She had the machines in a small building behind the house, it could be heard some distance away.

This is where the Quiet-Pak motor mount and skinny belt comes into play!

OOOOOOOOOWWWWW!!!

the lit up timer control knobs!!!
i LOVE the way they look!!! that is sooo cool!!! i really like the way the illuminated timer control knob looks lit up like that!!!

i LOVE it!!!
very very nice!!!

:o)

I'm definitely no expert....

but I'd start with the same idea - try running the motor sans belt. Is the noise the same in spin and agitate?

Also, try turning the belt by hand in agitate mode, it should be fairly easy to do without a lot of resistance. If it seems really stiff there may be some other problem and in that case I'd look at the pump first.

If it checks out OK the motor could need to be lubed which isn't too bad a job.  If you take the motor off take a picture of how the brackets are oriented before disassembly to make it easier when you put it back together.

Congrats on these great finds Phil!

Noisy Motor On A BD WP

It diffidently sounds like you have a bad motor and while you do have the narrow belt you do not have the quiet-PAC motor mounts and probably do not have the rubber mounted motor pulley. As Paul mentioned used 2 speed motors are readily available for WP BD washers.

Thanks Jon for the information. I guess I'll have to replace the motor... I wanted to keep the original style but I guess I'll go with what I have. I have to reach that Whirlpool Mark 18 with the bad outer tub and see if it's motor interchanges...

I just replaced the motor tonight, I used the motor from the bad 1976 Whirlpool Mark 18 washer that I got earlier that year. It's also a GE round ½ hp motor but it has a capacitor and it's not made in Canada... Much less noisy. I'll make a video later!

I noticed that the lint filter is hanging loose and the mounting bracket is broken... Another thing I'll have to fix later.

I had to part with my 1-18 set for a few months so that left a spot to install the Royal 100 pair where the 1-18 machines usually are.

I also made two short videos of the washer. Both machines are very quiet.

The light blue agitator seems white in these videos.
