Couldn't Have Happened to a Nicer Guy

You are such a pleasant part of who we are as a group to say nothing of resident expert on all things Frigidaire.  I am overjoyed that this came to you because no one deserves it any more than you.  I wish I had your refrigerator Karma, I'd love to have a classic bottom freezer fridge.

Very nice set! Thats the second set of these found in the last year. Amazing, to think they stayed together as a set all these years. Congratulations!

I did wash a few loads with the washer, haven't connected the dryer yet (but I tried before I bought it). All I had to replace were the bulbs in the washer's timer and I replaced 2 of the 3 drain hoses. I got a molded radiator hose that was the exact match for the one from the outer tub to the pump.

I like how the water fills with the thermostatic valves! Hot, cold, hot cold...

These are so beautiful Phil!

Do we get to see a tub and agitator shot? Pretty please!

Wondering if this one has the golden agitator like Jetcone's... (oh wait, never mind)

So will these be taking the center stage in the main laundry area?

My Dear Darlin" Baby Jesus

Good Lord (Enough with the religious crap Eddie)

They are just soooooo beautiful.

Give me a shout on the Cape if you get bored with them. Maybe Paul could bring them down for a swap. !!! LOL

Patrick,

I did take shots of the tub but unfortunately, it has the wrong (jet cone) agitator. These were supposed to be correctly working replacements but the cap on mine hits the lid so I have to remove it (and the bleach dispenser). I wish I could find the correct agitator for it. I'm also wondering if the tub is original or if it has been replaced at some point.

Phil-

I don't think the tub is original. That shade of blue wasn't used until the rollermatic's were introduced. Have you checked to see if it still has the original transmission?

Here is a picture of Jetcone's from way back. I'm not sure if he still has this machine but it is a good example of what the US made version looked like.

Not original tub and pulsator

Look at it this way, it may not be original stock, but the replacements kept the old girl going and her shell wasn't thrown out to the landfill. And as rare as the Control Tower models are, this one got a new lease on life.

Yes!

I totally agree with Bob. The outside of the machines are what really catch the eye and they are in great shape.

You may be able to scare up the correct agitator someday but the tub is larger (12 lb. vs 10 lb.) so you actually have more washing capacity. I have also found the porcelain to be better on the rollermatics in my experience.

Anyway, look forward to hearing more about the mechanicals!

Patrick

It does have it's Unimatic transmission as well as the original fill valves and the tub is different from Rollermatic tubs (look a the shape of the ring which is flat). I think that early Multimatics with 9 lbs tubs had tubs similar to this one.

I think the color of the porcelain coating in the original tub should have matched with the dryer drum's color.

You could be right about some of the early Multimatics having this tub.

I cant tell without seeing in person but your tub looks a lot like the tub from my '68 rollermatic. Here's a picture of it out of the machine.

Here is a picture of the tub in my '63 Multimatic. You can see a ridge in the middle of the rim around the top of the tub.

Just thought I'd throw these up for comparison.

I haven't defeated the lid switch so here's a video of the timer... It ain't that noisy in reality, it's just that the microphone in my phone camera seems a bit too sensitive...

Patrick, yes I had it set on small load (and I did pause the video at some point to make it shorter).

I have a '68 Rollermatic just like yours (a WN7 Gold Crown model) and the tub also has the ridge at the middle of the rim, just like in the later 12 pound Multimatic tubs. It's hard to see on your picture probably because of the angle.

See my Rollermatic tub, I think yours should be the same.
