2018 GE Impeller TL Washer

We picked this machine up on the scrap heap last week , while not exactly the same machine at the start of this thread it is 90%+ the same junk.

 

When I hooked it up it actually did a few loads and we wondered why someone got rid of it, then the fun began.

 

We put a very small load of wet rags in the machine and it went into its stupid sensing routine the machine proceeded to take 20 minutes ti fill to the brim and actually overflow a little [ according to the service Manuel you should not wash wet clothing in these washers ]

 

There is something very wrong with it however, the controls flash on and off, it keeps changing cycles from what you set it on and it just blacks out and refuses to work much of the time. reading the Manuel suggests a bad lid lock or main control board.

 

There is an unbelievable amount of service pointers on these washers already, it also sounds cheap like it is straining when ever the main motor starts to turn.

 

The day of top loading washers is simply over, I have not seen a single one that is satisfying to use or does what you want. in the last 5+ years. 

 

We are continuing to sell  lot of SQ TC5 series washers and people seem very happy with them, The MT MVB575 will also do a good job but you will be lucky to get ten years of heavy use out of one.

What is the wash behavior of these GE commercial machines? Will it be similar to the commercial Maytags or the rest of the GE line?

New GE Commercial Washer

I have a gtw460asj6ww It has the deep fill with the option for HE. It has the dual action agitator. This machine will fill to the top of the tub with the deep fill button activated. I have had no problems with the machine itself or the way it washes. This new commercial model looks to be a heavier duty version of the gtw460/465. Based on my experience with the gtw460, I would absolutely buy this washer with the heavier duty components.

I've seen the "new" GE front loading washer at stores in the past year or so. They look good, and I was hoping this thread might have some posts about that design.

GE just put the “Commercial” name on this washer in the hopes that some gullible consumer/customer buys the machine then throws it out just to buy another one and it really does seem that GE is trying to do whatever they can to force people to buy their crappy machines over and over again. My younger sister who lives in Arizona has one of those newer GE washers (it’s actually her boyfriend’s parent’s machine) and isn’t exactly thrilled with it and says it either doesn’t use enough water or fills up to the brim with water which is a huge waste of water. It seems like we are going backwards with the water level control with only having 2 water levels and not a small, medium, large or infinite water level.

I'm pretty sure it would have the same wash action as their other current top load models like this GTW465ASNWW for example. I friend of mine picked one of these up recently and they seem to like it so far.

Just 17 Shirts and an hour and 20 Minutes

That is not even 1/2 a load for this crappy washer and only 1/4 load for my SQ FL machine, yet it still uses more than twice the water and takes at least 20 minutes longer,

 

No thanks never in my house,

 

we have the same machine in the shop that we found on the scrap heap at just 2 YO,

 

Had a bad lid lock, but machines like this take all the fun out of doing laundry,

 

Imagine having to grow up with a washer like this.

What GE needs to do?

GE needs to do videos on how the gtw525 washes and its comparison to their competitors and other offerings. They must think we're stupid.

John, that appliance store in Austin runs newer machines as test examples so usually smaller loads with too much water to show the water action and that it can do a deep fill.  He sometimes runs overloads to check how that is handled.  He usually purposely loads impeller machines by piling the stuff in on the premise that a typical user will do it that way instead of placing the items distributed around the basket.  He occasionally runs tests on older "haulaway" machines for comparison to the newer offerings.

for Kirk Rivas. I've worked with him before. I wish more appliance stores would test new washing machines to get a full cycle video of what goes on. I'm grateful that he also does real-life tough loads, such as the dirty jeans test.

Modern machines like that GE definitely make laundry more of a chore compared to the Filter Flo machines they made decades ago since there’s no real flexibility and what options you do have a very limited since everything is all programmed in. Sure, the older mechanical timer machines can be limited in operations and flexibility but if you have something like a a Kenmore 80 series from the 90’s or a Maytag A806 you have a good amount of flexibility since you can choose the wash and spin speed combinations along with the wash and rinse temperatures and such flexibility isn’t really possible at least on most mainstream machines these days sold at Lowe’s and Home Depot or any other big box retailer.

GE Washer Test

Hi Glenn, I would never put a video on line showing such wasteful use of water, yes it is interesting to washer guys to try just so we know not to do it, Water Shortages and climate change are  real by doing a video like that more people are going to follow it, thank goodness GE makes it hard to select.

 

And no hot water in his shop it doesn't sound like they are very serious about cleaning things even for the business.

 

And 9 minutes to fill for wash, standard capacity WP-KMs would fill all the way up in just under 2 minutes.

 

As flawed as CRs is I would still take their testing over this.
