Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

OK, so it holds 23 bath towels in one load....

Which can't move around because there's 47% less water and a very small impeller at the bottom.

It would be a very cool concept if the energy saving garbage wasn't there to kill it.

Any cycles that actually fill to the top with water?

Yes, the sheets/towel setting fills up to the top.

Towards the end of my 6 months of use I used this setting often just to get semi clean results.

But it was probably the equivelant of filling a bucket full of water and sloshing it around with your hand!!!

I am wondering if Whirlpool designed this machine with the distinct purpose of making top-loaders gain a bad reputation? Which would be good for directing people who have been so accustomed to toploaders to frontloaders.
Conspiracy? perhaps (rubbing chin)? Not necessarily a bad one.

I think Whirlpool has done a great, no, over the top job with the front loaders. I love my Duet.
But the other toploader HE machines are just the opposite.

They still make basically the same dryers that they have made for like the last 40 years. I like my near BOL 7 year old KM electric dryer.

Fisher Pakel

FP is introducing their version of these soon. There will also be a matching top loading dryer(neither of them will have windows.)to go along.

I doubt Whirlpool has any nefarious purposes behind the Oasis/Cabrio/Bravos design. There's a sizable segment of the market that is die-hard for toploaders .. and like it or not, TL design must change to confirm with the enforced energy restrictions. I'd also *imagine* that design testing does bring forth many of the problems that can and do occur. Design refinements are likely done to the degree that they can be, attempts to head-off trouble via instructions in the user guides (I.E. do not wrap sheet around the wash plate .... use only HE detergent ... etc.). Some effects perhaps cannot be completely eliminated, but hopefully minimized ... or even accepted by the consumer-at-large as a trade-off for the "new-age" toploaders vs. those of old which at some point may no longer be available AT ALL.

F&P's AquaSmart is already on the floor at some stores. I've seen them at a Lowe's nearby.

Yes, that's true. You can avoid or nullify the negative effects of the Oasis/Cabrio/Bravos by following the instructions exactly. Also the merger of Whirlpool and Maytag was actually a benefit because both companies are known for their long-lasting duarbility and high quality aplliances. Also, they did have problems with these machines when they first came out. The control panels would frequently show error codes( Most commonly F40, F41, and F51.) There were also reports of the washer dying with a "pop" of the control panel and being rendered useless and also locking clothes inside when it happened. They thankfully recalled the washer and dryer and improved these problems. They have done this a few more times I belive.

Like it or not, conventional Top-Loaders are going obsolete just like VHS. Soon, the only washers will be Front-Loaders and HE Top-Loaders like the Oasis/Cabrio/Bravos.

Yes, Fisher & Paykel have come out with an agitator-less top loader. It is called the AquaSmart. It has a matching dryer called the AeroSmart which comes in electric and gas modes and yes it is top-loading. It was just realeased to the USA and yes, I did see the set at Lowe's.

Other HE Top-Loaders include the GE Harmony and the Haier Genesis. Both, I think are designed by LG.

We have had our Cabrio HE for a little over a year now and it has had absolutely no problems (knock on wood).

I think that the machine cleans VERY well, even with the lower water levels. A lot of the problems the people are having are not conforming the way they work. If they didn't have the transparent lids, people wouldn't know the difference. When they look into the washer and can't see any water and the clothes barely moving they freak and think that something is wrong... If you look up the reviews, its the ones that have the transparent lids... I have seen maybe 2 that have problems with the solid lid and they where real mechanical problems

I tend to use the sheets/towels setting since it uses the most water and depending on whats in the load more vigorous wash action.

The machine is sourced from F&P and they have a solid track record. Again, its machine made and mass produced so THERE is going to be problems! Its not hand crafted, if it was the price would be dramatically higher.
