Hmm my hotpoints began making a ominous knocking noise on spin! & its bloody loud, i think the bearings are on there way out! The suspension squeeks and the drum wobbles in an anticlockwise tumble too!!

Im wondering weather to get hotpoint out to it now, as the 12month guarentee runs out in oct. thing is i really want rid of it. But financially i dont thinks happening unless i sell maybe my newwave and the hotpoint.

Would you guys get them out now? Or should i wait for it to get abit worse.

Opinions appreciated!

Darren

Get em out

Hey Darren

Call em ASAP- if you wait till you start getting grease spots on ya clothes ur gonna curse!!

Seamus

Hmm i think i should, it takes bloody ages to balance now, i think the suspensions shot.& its gettin rather noisy! Hmm if i'm lucky they could replace it with a new model lol!

D

PICS! PICS! PICS!

Have THEM fix it, under warranty. Then one can sell it when funds repelish and allow for a new toy!

Let us know what happens!

Hello Darren
Best off getting it repaired or exchanged.
If the repair goes forward you can sell it as a perfectly working machine and get £££ for it.

Hi Darren, you want to get this baby fixed soon before it's a real right off, what have you been doing to it tut, tut LOL!

At least if it is fixed you should be able to sell it and get a good price with it being so young. Use the guarentee whilst it is free.

Take care

Hey Rob!
Long time no speak! Hope your well mr! What are you insinuating! lol!

I've just took a load out and it was really warm! Thats surely not a good sign?

It was bloomin loud enough, i will film it on the next load!

Darren

Hey Darren! I think you should get them to fix it! Or you could argue hell out of them until they give in and replace it with one of the new models LOL!

Ive a strong feeling the bearings are going if its getting warm after a cycle! My neighbours Beko gets really hot after the two 1400 spins it does for the final spin now and the bearings are sounding awful, it makes that roaring sound when spinning now!

Keep us posted on what you decided to do :D!

Rich

Hey Rich!
I've bin puttin it off as i think maybe there not bad enough for a repairman to come out. Its gonna have to wait til my next satdy off as i work 9-6 everyday.

The warmth after the spin has been goin on a while now...The drum is getting auidible when turned too. When its spinning about 1200 theres a little rattling and knocking noise, which i can't decide weather its the suspension or the bearings, and the background there is a very deep sounding whirr. bearings i believe.

Interesting. i think i'm going to get them to replace it. Hopefully a double hit of bearings and suspension should sort that out!

Darren

Sounds Like a Plan!

Good idea Darren! Leave it to get worse for a month or so then spring it on em'!!

Its always annoying when you can hear things going wrong but you know if an engineer was to hear/see it they'd say its not worth fixing yet! I had the same problems with my Zanussi, it always made a slight roaring sound when turned by hand but I knew if I called them out they'd leave it to get worse, then probably charge me a call out fee for wasting time LOL

Hopefully the new Hotpoints will be better! I had a look at one in Currys today, the new door looks a lot better I think :)

Rich

Bed and bath load.

ok so tonight, i did a 5kg fast wash with no real problems except for noise and endless balancing.

Now. For the ultimate test, the new 8kg ultimas (though they have the same drum as mine) have the bed and bath cycle, i decided to do a little bed and bath cycle of my own.

Bathrobe, set of sheets and a couple of towels.

The machine has aborted every spin so far. the one after the wash and the 1st rinse. adding 10minutes at a time. The drum just wobbles more and more out of balance! Its bloody ridiculous!

Doesn't this just ooze cheapness?

I'm wondering how our very own mr washyboy2005 is gettin along with his ultima?!

Back to the drawing board i feel.

Darren

Darren!!!

Sounds like your having a rather rough time there!

My Hotpoint is working really well at the mo - sorry to rub salt into the wound lol.

It's washing well and the bearings are showing no signs of wear yet despite it washing for numerous people and being used at 1600 for nearly every load and its 1year nd 3 months old!!

The only thing I don't like on mine is that it don't have the extra rinse option. The balancing drives me mad at times but i've gotten used to it.

BTW I'd advise you against a replacement new ultima.... they don't have the extra rinse option that yours currently possess.... in the new range it would appear that only the aquarius models have it now!

Otherwise my hotpoints working well, it does have an odd rattle at times when its really out of balance. (yes it really does spin oob at times!!)

Dan

Oh and mines got some form of mild blockage somewhere in it so that the distri drain thing thinks its empty, and does the first 300rpm burst full of water :-D

However can't get the sump or drain pump off because its held on with stupid plastic clasps rather than metal screw tightened jubilee clips like my friends wf000 has!

The clasps wont budge, ive even hit them with a hammer! lol

Dan

Hey Dan!
That is interesting! lol! My machine spins out of balance too sometimes! And makes the weirdest suspension noise!

I saw the new range when i went to peterborough for the product launch! I Like the look and the new door. But the lack of extra rinse was abit concerning.

I'll have to get a video of it so you can compare it and hear it!

Yes some of the plastic lugs are fiddley! I replaced a suspension leg on a co worker at the co-ops wd420 and those plastic clips are a bugger!

I'm hoping to get it repaired/replaced. and moved on.

Darren

Hi Darren

That really does sound awful, not what you would expect from such a new machine. My WD640 never sounded like that.

Someone definately needs to look at it. Hopefully you'll get shot of it soon.

Rob

Hey rob!
Will have to find time to have a chat over the phone soon, yea doesn't sound good, I'm wonderin weather they would replace it with a double hit of bearings and suspension?! Hotpoint usually have a 3fold policy before replacing, they have to repair it 3 times before they will. Though when i give them a call i shall give it the big. I've worked in electrical retail for the last 7years i've sold many of your products garb! Should bag me a new one!
lol

Darren

How do Darren.

I just hope my parents machine (same series as yours) doesnt start giving issues.

It is a sheer disgrace the way machinery is seemingly designed for three or so years use, before being carted off to the council tip.

Get yourself a second hand New or Next Generation, or even a WM series - would probably be a tad more reliable than todays machines.

Fingers crossed that you have success with Hotpoint.
Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul!
Sound advice, i may just do that. Theres a 2nd hand shop that sells loads of the redesigned WM's, Would be nice to pick a WM75 up with infobubble display!

It is a shame how the design and quality control seem to have gone down the drain with some companys. It is such a hyprocrital thing as were being pushed to conserve and be more economical but our appliances aren't manufactured to carry these values! Unless you pay through the nose for the pleasure!

Theres only 2...soon to be 3 of us that i'm washing for! And i fill it to its stated capacity.

It won't get sorted for a few weeks yet. Til i'm off on a satdy.

Hows the New gen doing? Would love to see some more cottons rinse vids!

Darren

Hey Guys,
So lastnite i ran a jam packed 7kg load in the hotpoint, and the almighty wacking sound was loud enough for my g.f to finally admit it was knackered, instead of saying "it sounds fine to me".

So i'm calling them today, I want this thing exchanged, the bearings are going, if they say its not bad enough yet, then the machine will die out of guarentee. So im thinkin of heading into the conversation with the "i've worked in electrical retail for 7years etc, this is not exceptable. I want this exchanged, if you exchange it i willeven take the extra cover for £5 a month. tc etc. What do you think?

I'm in the middle of filmin the super deafenin 1600rpm for you guys to hear & see!

would love some exchange gaining hints from you guys!

Darren

Exchange Tips

Hey Darren, sorry to hear you're having problems with your Hotpoint, i got rid of a Hotpoint Ultima 18 months ago now, it was 2 years old and was on its way out, unreliable, took 30 mins to do a final spin and wasn't up to the old Hotpoint quality of the 95360 i had growing up, so i brought the parents a Miele Distinction 3000 as a house warming present and have never looked back!

Anyway, i'm getting sidetracked, i too worked in Electrical retail for a couple of years and a sure fire way to get an exchange is to tell them you dont trust the machine you have, whether its been repaired or not, if the bearings and suspension have gone so soon, then what is to say something else won't go aswell? Tell them you believe you got a duff one off the line and you're losing faith in their brand, if you go for the sympathy vote they might just go that extra mile for you, i've always found that the best approach and any customers i dealt with who had a sympathetic story to tell i always done everything i could for, maybe i'm a mug but it worked for them and its worked for me in the past too, lol!

Hope you get it sorted soon mate as its no fun having a machine you're not happy with

Keep us posted!

Pedro

Hey pedro!
Yea lookin back i was the same! I tried my hardest for the people who'd had a bad time with their appliances, i was thinkin of goin back to my old supervisor at the co-op where i bought it from and see what he'd do.

I no they will have to come out 1st to check it is faulty, but then i suppose i should say i don't want it fixing.

I will call them tomorrow as they've closed now and i've been out all afternoon!

Darren

My hotpoint has broke

Darren My hotpoint has broke, but it's not the drum or suspention, it;s the control panel.

We pressed on button to start a program and all of a sudden the computer display went into the machine, along with the control board, luckly the buttons are attached but it's a big hole, we are waiting for a repairman on 5 days time.

Anyone buying a hotpoint --> yes they look nice but u got to think about build quality, i'm now starting to see how crap they're put together.

Update on Ultima

Darren and washer fans our washer is being repaired by a comet worker and i'm stunned, he's 40 mins early, lifted off the panel front and top and the computer was so far down towards the drum springs.

The worker is friendly and actually is well known to the ultima,
Won't be long til my wt960g gets a new start of life.

One question, is it gonna spin anti-clockwise?

You decide for urself lol.

Ultima is fixed in 30 mins repair

Wow guys i expected this repair man to take over an hour to fix the hotpoint but it took less than 30 mins and it runs as good as new.

Oh and the answer to the question is this.....
IT'S STILL CLOCKWISE lmao

Richard.

Congrats richard!
Not sure my machines repair will be that quick! Hopefully it will result in an exchange!

Question is: Like for like exchange, would they give me the wmf760 7kg 1600rpm but thats dials or wmd960 8kg 1600, lcd display?

Darren!

Hey Guys!
So today was the day for the hotpoint to be repaired! I know the repair guy from when he used to come into my old store and fix display units! He was chatty and we talked about allsorts to do with hotpoint and old models etc!

I told him i'd in a act of foolishness, sold my WM43. Which i'm sorely missing and he fondly said "ahh they were great machines those" I was like. Please don't say that. Because i know i made a very grave error lol.

SO...onto the machine. The tub weights were loose, which is a very common fault on this range he said. He knew straight away what it was! He said that should sort it and began putting it back together...

Though i wasnt happy with that diagnosis and when it got to the 1200 stage of the spin there came the knocking again, he tried balancing the machine and holding it down to stop the noise. he thought it was the pipes knocking!

So when he dragged it out and found the noise was still present, he told me i was right and that he will replace the suspension when he gets new parts.

He also told me what parts of the wt960 were hotpoint and what were indesit. The only real hotpoint parts are the cabinet, dispenser and drum! Mine is a split tub model so the bearings are still changable, but the 6kg's are definately sealed drums!

We had a chat about my models and machines he used to repair. he was particularly fond of the colston washer/dryers before ariston took them over! I don't know much about them but he sang their prases!

Good experience all in all. Though i do still want it gone. There are too many things i don't like about it. Though that will be easier said than done!!!
