Talk about profits per bottle....
Charlotte was in the last region of the country that P&G converted to 2x consumer detergents, which happened in the April/June time frame. Harris Teeter, one of our premier grocery stores which is based in the Charlotte area, progressively put all the P&G 1x detergents on clearance whereas some of the other stores just let them sell until gone. When they got to the Gain and Cheer, they had been in clearance mode on the Tide 64oz bottles for a week or two, and they got very aggressive - the Cheer 80oz bottles and Gain 100oz were priced at $1.94 and $1.44 each!!! I could hardly believe it, that was more than a $4 savings per bottle.
Needless to say, I have a lot of Cheer and Gain, and though I doubt HT made much money on the stuff, this may give an indication of how much profit there is per bottle.
