Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

back to life

spinning to empty after the over flow rinse. All the processes are manual on this machine filling ….. washing… spinning etc. If you want to heat the water up you have to fill the wash basket first and then spin to save the water into the tub below where the heater is located…… when the water reaches the set temperature you have to set the machine to wash and turn the lever to let the suds return and hey presto the hot water returns to the basket for you to add the washing to . Fantastic little machine very simple to use and once have sorted out the camera will do a movie to demonstrate properly. The only thing i don't like are the black hoses which i have had to use as the grey ribbed hoses were almost impossible to find.

Parnall SpinWasher

Congrats Darren on the complete restoration, your washer looks just FAB, you make it look so easy but knowing how you systematically tackled it gives us all hope for future renovations!!

I can see now how the clutch and helix work given the bedtime doctrine reading you sent as well, come the spring will bring over my newly found model and start the task as well with your help!!

Dont give up on finding grey hoses, havnt visited that pneumatic hose factory yet, as an aside I do like the black hoses...

Now for the videos...

Afternoon Darren,

I have to say it is looking fantastic !! A credit to you, you have done a grand job!!

I need to get the cabinet sprayed on mine at some time. Grey hoses would finish it off nicely.

Mike, have you found a Spinwasher ?? I collected the two Thor Automagic's last weekend and are currently sitting in mum's shed, one sounds like the clutch has gone but the other sounds ok, a good clean and they will be perfect, they are really mint condition body wise.

I will probably break one down so quite a few spares will be available if anyone is interested.

Cheers guys
Keith

Fantastic transformation Darren - bet you are really pleased. Look forward to seeing this in action in your videos.

The black hoses don't look bad and I quite like the red one you used on your test run - makes it unique to you. What is the spin speed of this machine? Is it quite stable as I can't see any suspension unless I'm missing something?

SpinWasher

Hi Keith, I think it was more that the spin washer found me!!, yes have a cream version but needs the clutch sorting and a re-spray so its heading up to Lincoln with me soon for a Parnall workshop....Congrats on getting the two Thors, I have a request please, dont break one up for spares, Darren in Lincoln needs one and then he can break his up for spares for us when / if required as its in a worse state than the 2nd one of yours!!

Paul, will do a second thread about the Spinwasher so as not to hog this one, and thanks for being patient, had seen your request on FB...

Hi Darren.
The machine looks superb! Congratulations on a grand restoration.

Are you pleased with the quality of the respray and what shade of white did you ask for? Looks a good shade and useful to know, just in case I decide to go down the respray road with any of our machines.

As with everyone else - looking forward to the tutorial videos, in how to operate your new Parnall spinwasher :-)

Paul

Brilliant

Great to see this machine up and running and in action. Imagine the suds mountain on the suds return if you'd used the traditional non automatic washing powder!!

Seems really stable and that spin seems to be around the hotpoint top loader speed. How water tight are the spigot connections? I can imagine the mess you'd get if that drain hose popped out lol

A fab restoration - well done

During the filming

When i was filming the washer we had a little trouble with the agitator drive block . In the centre of the the block there should be a bolt to hold the block onto the drive shaft. This became loose and eventually lifted off. A few days later it was re-taped with a new bolt and washer.
I will put a picture on of what the finished job looks like but this it what happened !!!!

Parnall Design review

I came across this interesting article on Darren's Machine in a design magazine so thought I'd add them on here rather than a new thread. Hope its interesting. I've uploaded the scans the old way to make sure they can be read
