What a cracking article, thank you for loading it - I will enjoy have a close read of it later. Just a couple of points from a quick scan:

1. Reference is made to the Thor Automagic - from the Which 1960 report this machine is a successor to the later versions of the Thor and, apparently, shared a lot of the design characteristics although it looks completely different.

2. Some of the issues raised are covered in the somewhat more complex and later Spinwasher Deluxe with the raised panel on the back.

Note however that this machine is marginally cheaper than the Hoovermatic although it is very much more sophisticated and actually more labour saving - its a great shame they were not more popular

What this article cannot tell you is what beautiful machines these are - Darren's spinwasher is nothing short of stunning and the Deluxe he got a few weeks ago will be the same once he has completed the restoration.

Great documentation on the Parnall Spinwasher, many thanks for publishing Steve, what design mag was it because the pics look similar to an Ideal Home report from the 60`s....

They are great machines and as Al says you need to see them in person to appreciate Darrens restorations and great washers, any housewife with one of these after a wringer washer would have thought she had won the lottery !!..

Cheers, Mike

Glad it's of interest. I got it from a magazine called Design from July 1961 - it's the journal of the Design Council. The major kitchen appliances section has fridges and cookers in it too - I'll scan those on Monday too and add if anyone is interested.

Seems brave for the manufacturer to allow such scrutiny although I guess it helps with the evolution process. Funnily enough, the Nothampton College of Technology is now City University London where I used to work. I don't recall seeing any washing machines in bits in the engineering department so perhaps this exercise was a one off.
