Launderess, thanks for always making me smile! LOL
Kenwashesmonday, that reminds of one time when my roommate washed my percolator. I don't know if he just forgot to rinse or what, but when I went to fill it next time, it turned to complete suds as I did so, like when you squirt some Dawn into the sink and turn on the water!
Whirlcool, enjoy your wonderful new pot. I have one just like it. They make good coffee, and the cornflower pattern was always my favorite of theirs, though thanks to Gary and some others I've seen patterns of theirs I never knew or dreamed existed!
I am a dyed in the wool percolator user. I like the coffee far better (I suppose it's a matter of taste, but except in a Bunn or commercial unit, drip coffee tastes like nothing more than hot water to me). Even if there were no other reason, I simply don't have the countertop real estate to devote to one of those beasts.
Farberwares have been a perennial favorite, particularly being they're so fast. Thanks to one of Gary's posts showing his collection, I learned of a Corning unit that is clear glass, like the Proctor Silex units. I found one on Ebay, and as it has red trim that looks nice in my kitchen, it is the one I use most these days. I also have a collection of Sunbeams, Proctors, Hoovers and what-not.
The vacuum units are kind of messy to deal with, but they definitely do make good coffee, and I have several.
