Phone ringing after hanging up on automated message

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

It's been a right plague here in Canada recently - seemingly endless calls from 'spoofed' numbers that look like legit local to you area code numbers or better still, Government agencies.  Most of the time it's a robocall urging you to press 1 to speak to an agent and avoid imminent arrest and prosecution.  We've been getting the time-old time-share vacation property scam again, too.  It's been quite some time since Karen from Microsoft called....

My mobile has been getting lots lately and I have been answering them, alas, because I have a number of irons in the fire and am waiting for callbacks from plumbers, electricians, health-care professionals, etc.

If I am feeling particular bored, I'll press 1 to talk to however answers and keep them on the phone for as long as I can.  After all, they are trying to 'work' so what better revenge than to keep them from earning their dishonest living?

The government says there will be new measures to control these calls, but they are expecting our phone/internet service providers to come up with the solutions, so that's likely not to happen. If it does, of course the telcos will triple their already-outrageous rates claiming "we had to invest in new technology".

We’ve had our home phone and both of our Tracfones registered on the Do Not Call registry every since it was available or 15 years ago, and it has done little if anything to prevent these scam calls.

The best preventative measure we have found yet is the on screen caller id from Comcast. If we don’t recognize the number, we don’t answer the call, PERIOD! If its legit, let them leave a message, which they almost never do. Recently, one of these scam numbers did leave a VM, and that damn thing was endless! It repeated at least three times before I finally got the prompt to hit 7 to delete it.

Even NOMOROBO doesn’t work very well sometimes anymore. In fact we’ve even had some call show up as being from NOMOROBO, which I’m positive weren’t from them.

We are both senior citizens, and I believe that these diabolical callers target the elderly, in the belief that we are easy marks, and I’m sure many are.
