A KA mixer supporting breast cancer research!!

Glenn???? Yum!! Sounds good, but had one or two things in the cake I couldn't eat.

Glenn somehow I missed the recipe, do you happen to remember which thread and when? Thanks. Jason that is a beautiful mixer. Now you need the retro coffee grinder to match. Robert got that while we were there in December. I had never seen the coffee grinder in pink before. Terry

Pink Mixer

Jason,

I love that pink mixer. Thought about getting it to go with my grey mixer. I absolutely love the pink color.

Congrats once again and Happy Memorial Day weekend~!

Jason, great mixer, KitchenAids are the absolute BEST!!! They also have an Artisan in UT orange which I want in the worst way! I'm trying to remember the wattage of the Artisan, is it 325?

I see Helen's already used it for peanut butter cookies...now let's see what you'll be making! ;-)

Terry, I don't remember which thread. I think it was in the yellow section. I scanned through the topics, none of the caught my eye. If the original poster of it doesn't respond first, I can email it to you. Is the addy in your profile correct? Last time I emailed you at the addy I have (which admittedly was a while ago), I didn't get a response.

Kitchen Aid Models

Ok ok Im a litte confused with all these KA models, could someone please explain. I am a KA owner, its a putty colored mixer, and I got the dough hook, whisk and cake beater with it, the metal bowl and a bowel cover.

I was told in the store it was the last of that model because KA were bringing out a new one, (this was about 2 years ago). I see the new ones have a splatter guard in the box now the plastic bowl cover.

But to me, all the KA look the same, are they? Whats the difference except the accessories u get when buying. If you say the new ones have better motors I'll CRY!!!!!

I feel the OLDER KA mixers have the better motors-quieter,and repairable.the newer ones if the motor fails you have to send it to KA-the new motors seem to make a disturbing "whiney" sound.also the older KA mixers have the brush holder covers accesible and visible from the outside of the motor housing.I have two KA machines-one with the older motor--its about 15 years old and a new one that is about only 2 years old-I like the older one better.

Different types

KA stand mixers essentially fall into two groups: as "tilt head" and "bowl lift". The smaller units are tilt head type and the larger units are the bowl lift type. Then you have 4, 5 and 6 qt. bowls. The first type comes with 4 or 5 qt. bowls, the second with 5 or 6 qt. bowls

One of the benefits of bowl lift is they take up less vertical counter space, since you just raise and lower the bowl with a handle. The other type tilts back, needing a higher counter space.

Most accesories are interchangeable amongst all types.

I have a bowl lift 5 qt, and am very pleased with it.

Terry, someone gave the recipe for the oatmeal cake, then someone else the recipe for the frosting and the same cake recipe but with optional raisins. Well, here are both "combined".

Oatmeal Spice Cake
If using a KitchenAid, Kenwood, or other big mixer, use the flat beater.
13 x 9 (33 x 23 cm), greased and floured baking pan
350 °F oven

Combine and let sit for 20 or so minutes:
1 cup Oatmeal (raw), Old Fashioned or quick, but not instant!
1 1/2 cups boiling water. I boil the water in a Pyrex bowl in the microwave, and dump the oatmeal into that, add 1 cup raisins (optional). Stir, set aside.

Cream together:
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar, packed. I like dark brown sugar for this.

Cream it well. When using a stand mixer, I let it wail on it for a good 5-7 minutes.

Add:
2 "large" eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Also add the cooked, and slightly cooled, oatmeal with raisins (optional).

Stir together these dry ingredients:

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, preferably freshly grated. I never measure, just grate until I've had enough

Stir the dry ingredients into the wets. Mix on medium speed (KA 45, about speed 4) for three minutes.

Pour into prepared pan, bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until it looks good and smells better. Test with toothpick

Frosting:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup cream
3 egg yolks or 2 whole eggs and 1 TBS flour
Cook over low/medium heat in a heavy saucepan, stirring constantly, (no one had heard of a whisk yet) until mixture thickens and boils. Remove from heat and add
2 cups coconut
1 cup walnuts
1 tsp vanilla
Spread on cake.

The two KA machines I have are the bowel lift ones. The older one is 5Qt capacity and the new one is 6.The beaters on the 5 and 6Qt sizes are NOT interchangable-unless you adjust the beater heights.also on my 6Qt one-the beater blades don't have that nice white coating-they are bare metal-a pain to clean.I am also nervous about aluminum coming in contact with the food.I beleive the coating is some sort of food grade epoxy.Very duarable and food safe-and non stick.
