The ad says the old Maytag stopped cold one day. It was probably a machine with the wiring in the lid. John said that the wiring insulation used to get stiff and the switches would not work or the wires would break where they came out of the back of the lid and went into the cabinet. AMP-style machines were not trouble free.
This ad probably dates from the late 50s, a few years before West Hyattsville and most of Prince George's County underwent white flight. I go through the West Hyattsville Metro Station on the way to and from work. I'll think about the Maytag as I go through there this afternoon. I wonder if the children from these Maytag ads ever see themselves in old magazines.
