We're huge fans of unscented Tide and it's pretty much all we use for heavily soiled loads, but when we ran out of it last week we tried some regular Tide.

We still can't get rid of the smell.

No we didn't use too much.

Not that the odor is unpleasant, but it's been making us sneeze and otherwise irritating our eyes, noses and throats non-stop. We're wondering if anyone else has had this reaction to the current Tide.

I think

Once you get use to using un scented detergent, it a shock to switch back to scented.
Who knows what's used to create the scents they are using!
I'd give it away! It's not worth triggering a allergic reaction

If my brother comes near TIDE, it starts a chain reaction of symptoms....even in a store....

curious.....if I use anything but Tide on my partners clothes, he goes into a frenzy, breaking out in a rash, and sinus issues, watery eyes....Tide in any form is the safety net for him....

use of any other detergent, without or without scents and dyes, and double/triple rinsing does not prevent him from breaking out!....

and yet, Liquid Tide offers great relief for things like poison ivy.....

just one of those things, it's not for everyone.....

Martin, does your brother have allergic symptoms? Sneezing, watery eyes etc?

Also, does your partner get the same reaction to products like Charlie's or Woolite? I think Charlie's is guaranteed hypo-allergenic. We use one or the other for lightly soiled loads, they rinse easily and the scents are great.

Stan, I think there's something to your theory. The odds of both my partner and I being allergic to a given product are pretty slim, unless the Tide people missed or ignored something in their testing.

John, I was trying to be kind but I do agree with you.

oh yeah....he goes into a frenzy.....first the eyes, and then his sinuses start to fill up, any more of exposure and a heachache and rash start.....

I keep Tide products in sealed containers in case he walks into my laundry room....

as for my partner, nothing else works for him except TIDE.....and I have tried so many things, even running his clothes thru a water only cycle after washing.....its just better to stick with TIDE.....
he developed this sensitivity while working for OldSpice Co in his early 20's......being around all those chemicals and perfumed scents for years triggered an allergic reaction inside his system....

I was having a similar reaction/rash with my Mom, everything had to be Free and Clear detergents and extra rinsing, and she developed a reaction to wearing certain cotton blend fabrics......but turned out it was the meds she was on, she switched doctors, reduced 9 pills down to 4, and the allergy was gone....something there to think about...

Jeff

Don't know how many times Tide has changed their formulas in the last 5 years, but I've lost count.
Between powdered, liquid, with Downey, without, with fabreez, without, HE, vs none ect ect. Who knows...Seems like many here have complained about problems rinsing Tide products, despite top loaders doing extra rinsing ect.

As for my theory... Don't know if I'm right or not, but I think it's kind of like ... Eating really health for a while, the suddenly having a Ding Dong LOL
it's a shock to the system, and the body says " No, I don't like that"

Are you talking about liquid or powder reg. Tide?

What kind of a scent are you talking about? I ask because when I use powder Tide HE, the clothes finish with a very fresh smell, like a waterfall is the only way I can describe it. The Persil Universal does not leave that super fresh smell, but there is no lingering smell with either, especially not after drying. I wonder if it is because I use the STPP. My sister has to use only ALL free & clear liquid because she has terrible allergies. I tried liquid Tide HE and it smelled terrible during the wash and after.

I mean powdered Tide. IMO it's more of an artificial attempt at waterfall freshness, like Fabreeze or Glade. We threw the rest of the regular Tide box out to prevent us from making the same mistake again. I'd love to know if P&G ran into this problem in their testing.

Smells like gasoline to me..............................

regular liquid Tide that is!!! I hate the smell, but more than Tide, I hate the smell of Gain!!! I prefer scented detergents, but not heavily scented. My favorite liquids are Cheer with Clean Fresh Scent, and Era!

Mike, if you haven't already, try Charlie's. Best natural washing soda scent ever imo.

Around here, we haven't had any allergic reactions to any laundry detergent. However, hubby can't use Dawn dishwashing liquid or his hands get a rash. Palmolive or Ajax, no problems.
