ROAD TRIP TO PARIS FOR ROLLERMATIC SET!!!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

this one does have

much more tub rust than any other rollermatic i now have. it seems to be surface rust, not that deep yet.

if anyone has a suggestion as to what to use on it to repair this please let me know. i was gonna use primer and rustoleum.

dryer looks to be

in good shape. i had forgotten how much i love frigidaire dryers. my aunt had one and that lint filter was so convenient! gonna get the dryer running and use it as my "main machine". have to run 220 vac to it so it will be awhile.

all in all

a very pretty set that i was very fortunate to be able to get! i am very grateful for the post on this site that enabled me to buy it.

once i get the turquoise rapidry custom imperial running this one is my next "project". maybe i'll luck out and it won't even leak. everything looked great from underneath, very clean looking, no signs of trouble.

thanks for lookin!

You really do have a lot of dedication for the Rollermatics, and their preservation. We need to get more word out to the general population on the vintage Frigidaires. They weren't very common to begin with, not nearly so as the Maytags and Whirlpools, so a smaller population was ever made aware of them.

There is more to a GM Frigidaire than just its cleaning abilities. To me, the entertainment value is just as important if not more so. There was a lot of "cool" factor in General Motor's advertising back in the day. In addition to their good cleaning abilities, these machines were actually a lot of fun to use!

Rust

Pete,

That's the most rust I've ever see on one. I'd try some Iron Out. I used some sno-bol once and made a mess with it. One things for sure, if you want to remove the rust and protect the finish you'll have to work at it carefully.

I just reworked the pump on my '65 and it turned out great, if you need some tips let me know.

Joe

thanks

yea it's got some rust doesn't it but underneath it looks great, turns easily, bearing sounds good, motor looks good, rollers great! the guy said water had set in it a long time.

as for the pump, thanks but i don't use pumps on mine. i take them off and gravity drain em. that's what i am workin on now on my custom imperial, installing a second drain in the outer tub using a peice from a pool supply house. it's 1 and 1/2 inches in diam pvc, i have hole cut in outer tub already, gettin ready to prime paint it.

i did find a new pump seal from larry in parma for rollermatic pumps, if you need one he may have more. dave from dave's repair on the web is advertising them also.

glad you got your pump fixed.

Pete, Great shots of your growing Frigidaire collection and your Living Room! Looks like you've got a lot of work ahead, but it will be worth it when they are restored. Mike

Hey Pete

Good to hear your trip to Paris went well, and that you and the Frididaires made it home safely. Haven't been to Paris, TN for several years. The old factory building and its contents look interesting, and I'll have to try to stop there whenever I'm down that way again. The GE 40" range in coppertone is interesting as it's one of the more unusual models with the surface units placed at each end, rather than the left side of the cooktop as on most. Is the left side an oven or storage area? Also, what are the colorful items on the shelf at top of wall? Maybe Fiesta?

i'm not sure what those colorful

items were, i didn't realy notice them when i was there.

i had my mind on one thing only! getting that rollermatic set home in one peice without dropping them off the truck like i did on an earlier trip.

i do know the guy who owns the place wants to sell that stove badly! he wanted me to buy it but i have no interest in it.

my next post that i do from my trip back to buffalo will have some beautiful shots of some gorgeous stoves that i absolutely love! they are hotpoints from the 50's i believe and they'll take your breath away!

hope to get the post on next week.

but if someone does have an interest in anything from this man's store i have his phone no.

thanks mike and matt and norfolk for the encouragement!

a cinti or ohio wash in sounds fun!

maybe i'll have all these dishwashers and rollermatics up and running by then!

as for that stove and whether that door on the left was stsorage, i honestly don't remember. but looking at the control panel i see 2 dials and i'm wondering if they are both oven control dials? that would mean a left side small oven. sorry i can't remember, like said my mind was on those frigidaires and the long trip home that day in that rented truck!

Wow - more great finds!

Wow, Pete, you sure dig up some neat stuff on your road trips! The Frigidaires look great and I will bet you anything that rust in the washer tub will scrub right out.
The store photos are enticing - just the sort of place I could spend the day and a paycheck in!! LOL
Enjoy the new "furniture"!!

Nice machines, thanks for showing the U-Name It store, Its only about 50 mi from my house. I used to go antiquing there a lot.

Storage

If the small oven were on the left the burners would be clustered together and there would be two black knobs on either side of the clock for oven set and temperature.
