I'm so glad the shading could be seen in that picture I took of the front panel. The lighting isn't the greatest with that one light in the laundry room.

Thank you Roger

Frigidaire Fran

Hi Christina, I live near Liverpool, UK and it was in a local "Frigidaire Coin-Op" launderette in the 60`s that I first saw a row of turquoise Jetaction washers..They had a Dry cleaning Perc machine so once a year my nan would take down the heavy long burgundy crush velvet curtains that blocked out the winter draughts and she would roll them up and place in two little shopping trollys on wheels and we would pull these along to the launderette about 15 mins away.

A lady always supervised the quick dry clean machine , as a kid I couldnt understand dry clean ? I used to imagine they used something like a wet sand solution until I learned about the perc process many years later lol..

So as we waited we sat on bench seats facing the row of top loaders, I had been used to seeing top loaders , my nans niece Aunty Peg had a Servis top loader with an agitator, (like Speed Queen) so was used to the back n forth rhythmical action but then a heard this gentle woo woo woo sound so imagine my shock & delight when I ran over to see what was happening inside and saw the "Thumper" bobbing up and down through the glass lid with those familiar Frigidaire Lines etched on the glass and the soapy water splashing everywhere - mesmerised wasnt the word, then when the next lady unloaded her washer I could just stand on tip toes to peek inside and see the Jetcone and the smoothe mid grey washtub - AMAZING !!

Of course there was no way from that point on that that I was gonna wait another year to get a re-visit ha ha, I hung around there anytime I could to see these Frigidaire Jetactions washing away and getting high on the perc fumes !!

The model built here under license was the Frigidaire Jetamatic and had the built in 3kw water heater, alas we havnt managed to find one !!

Keep enjoying Poppy Fran !!

Thanks for sharing that wonderful memory of the Frigidaire coin-op launderette.
WOW... I can't imagine what it would have been like to be in a Frigidaire coin-op launderette. And with all those windows in the lids!?
You know me... I LOVES windows!
I know it would be near impossible, but MAN, could you imagine if I got a windowed-lid for FRAN!
:o)

Oh well, I'm happy that I've got a POPPY Frigidaire FRAN that is working.
:oD

You know, I didn't really notice how nice the control panel is, until just now that you mention it? I did notice a pretty big scratch in the chrome, below the PERMANENT PRESS CARE words, but that is it! And the fact that it only has those few scratches, there's no fading or flaking of the paint anywhere that I can see. If I didn't know any better, i would say it almost looks brand new, for it's age!
You are RIGHT!

oh my gosh...

Sorry for not responding sooner. It's been a little while since I've checked in here.

You are so right about that scratch! You know, at first I really didn't pay attention to how nice the whole machine was because I was just trippin on the fact that I was seeing in person & actually had a POPPY Frigidaire 1-18 washer. But when I really started looking at the shape Frigidaire FRAN was in, I was pretty amazed to see just how nice the cabinet & control panel are!
I did find a small chip in the front panel paint the other day. And there's probably a few other minor "scars" that I haven't noticed on the right side. But for being a 1973, I would say it's in great shape.

You know me, I loves the funky 70's colors:
Harvest Gold;
Maytag DE808, Kitchenaid KDI 19
Coppertone;
Maytag 806, GE P-7 double-oven
Poppy;
Frigidaire 1-18 washer
