Went to KFC Sunday night, been a long weekend and was too tired to cook. Got there about 7:30 Pm finally got out 40 minutes later. Group of 3 people in front of me having a party, spent $120 and cleaned out most of the store. I was about to leave several times but was tired and it was late so I waited. Bad move.
Got the WORST food poisoning I have ever had in my life. A little upset around 10 PM then I kept waking during the night thinking I should make a trip.. but Monday I lived in the bathroom and when I didn't I could move 5 or 6 feet and I would be totally exhausted. An old favorite flu remedy my mother made when I was growing up was Jello water. Lots of sugar for energy and it's warm and soothing, at least to me. Struggled down to make some and ended up sitting on the kitchen floor for 10 minutes waiting to get up the strength to stand. Lived on it for a day and a half.
Anyway, as some of you know I'm caring for my dad. He was kicked out of the hospital last Thurs. for non-compliance, long story but he was moved from the rehab floor to a med. floor by mistake and they would not take him back on the rehab floor due to his mental state. He was there for 3 weeks. Did not have a good option so he came home. He adjusted pretty well to being home, had no memory of the past 3 weeks. He was still requiring much help with getting up and down, bathroom trips and such. Well Monday and most of Tues. I couldn't do it. Got him downstairs and left him on his own.
Amazingly he got himself around, fixed a little lunch and dinner and had few issues. He struggled at first getting off the sofa, but managed when he needed to. I stayed upstairs in my room, near the bathroom 99% of the time. It wasn't like I had been babying him, he has his space and I have mine, when he needs something he knocks on the wall to let me know, but he mentally was depending on me. Without that to fall back on he did what he needed on his own.
So now it's the end of the week, and he's zipping around the house with his walker, his phys. therapist said on Wed, that he should be able to loose the walker in a few weeks and get back to "normal". This is the guy they mistakenly called a code on a little over a week and a half ago and questioned my orders for a "full code" status. Dr.s telling me he would need constant attention and would never be the way he was.
Point of the long story? No matter how bad things seem - food poisoning and an invalid parent -it does not get much worse- life can turn and surprise you in odd and interesting ways.
