Hey guys, I'm hoping some of you can get your mojo going and help me out on this one. When I was a kid in the 80's, one of my aunts would buy a salad dressing that I absolutely loved, and I haven't found anything like it since.

The dressing came in a glass bottle, the shape of most salad dressing bottles, but larger, and made of ribbed glass. I think the label was green, but I may be wrong on that one, she purchased it at the local Save-a-Lot store, the only grocery store she ever went to back then.

The dressing itself was very rich and tangy, not watery but not overly thick like many modern dressings, and it had tons of dill. It did not taste like ranch dressing of any brand I have tried, and it did not say ranch anywhere on the bottle, it just said Buttermilk Dressing.

I would love to taste this dressing again, please help me out guys....

Uncle Dan's

In the West before Ranch dressing craze hit we bought Uncle Dan's Buttermilk Dressing mix in a packet. We added 1 cup mayonnaise and 1 cup buttermilk and gave it a stir. To this day I keep a container ready to go on the door of the fridge. It's lighter in texture and taste than ranch.

I remember I used to see Buttermilk dressing on the store shelves all the time. But I haven't seen it lately. I think it was replaced by Honey Mustard and all it's variants. I'll keep an eye out for some for you.

BTW, we love Ken's Steak House dressings!

Since butter became a  condemned word for some.  You might consider Kelly/Mixfinder's suggestion, an envelope of ranch mix with his suggested additions sounds like it would come close.  In fact I may make some this weekend. Sometimes in the hot miserable summer a nice chef salad can be filling and just enough to satisfy.  alr

I remember this dressing. Just can't for the life of me remember the name. We used to use in in the restaurant I worked at. It came in a tall ribbed glass jar much like Orange Juice came in, I remember a green cap.

I just did a Google search and didn't see anything like it. I know it wasn't Hidden Valley, Kraft, but could have been seven seas. This dressing was thinner than Ranch dressing. A little tangier.

Frigilux

I saw this one on line too. That isn't the bottle I remembered, but it could be now because It was 30 years ago that we used it. We bought in quart bottles and I remember a green label then.

Again products redesign their labels all the time, best way to tell is the taste test. I'm not answering for the OP just myself.

While shopping at Krogers, I looked and they carry Buttermilk dressing in their
store brand. I don't know if you have a Kroger close by but they own a bunch of stores under different names might be worth a look.

Buttermilk Ranch Dressing

Ina Garten has a really good Buttermilk Ranch dressing recipe. I recently made it & loved it: tangy & not too thick. You can look the recipe up on the Food Network website.

It Is Very Hard To Find Many Things Made From Buttermilk

Because the real buttermilk many of us remember that was the byproduct of butter making is hard to find. What you often get today is milk that has been batch soured.
