Servis supertwin 108, spin bearing change.

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Well thats

The spinner bearings done, but there are a few other minor issues such as the mains neon and the wash tub drain fitting leaks, but you know me I was just to eager to get washing. This is the first time I've used a servis supertwin by myself for a large serious wash, and i really enjoyed myself, good results, I did notice the larger spinner drum and that seemed to help with the rinsing.

Just need to tidy up the tools now,

Don't you just hate it when you have the machine all back together only to find you've left out a vital component!

well

I suppose the designers at servis thought it was vital lol

Sorry Mike I know, I've let myself down, I've let servis down and I've let my Aw frends down.

But on the plus side I could be pegging out with 3mins still on the wash tub clock.

have a good week

Mathew

Servis Weekend

Hello Mat
Looks like you had a good weekend:-) and a worthwhile one aswell, these are such lovely machines

And of course you will have scored extra brownie points with a certain scouser for getting a Servis sorted

I had a bit of a Servis moment this weekend aswell, looking in our local 2nd hand shop and saw this (not a bargain but he says he is open to offers)

Gary
Ps one day i shall get back to the 3060 and finish that (if it doesnt finish me off first)

Supertwin

Matt

Thanks for the pictures and details - there is a small leak in the spinner of my Supertwin as well but I think it may be in the outer casing.

I really enjoy washing in the Supertwin, quiet and smooth it just gets on with the job without drama or tangling. I thought the inner lid would be a real pain but in practice I find it does not bother me that much :)

Gary, that was the first machine my mother had - it will be hanging around a long while at that price.

Al

for that price

I would at least expect a power wringer lol.

Hi Al, as you say it just quietly washes away, pleased your enjoying yours.

I actually have only used one with the two lids at Richards, and due to a rather generous doseing of detergent we were rinsing 5 or 6 times, so I thought whilst I had the chance to remove the lid without damage I would. I also left the brake quite loose, so that you can get the lid open and still see the drum slowing down, whilst adjusting the rinse flow.

The other thing I found and this is more operator error than critism. was the wash tub lid hinging backwards rather than to the side or coming off, ment I wasn't looking where the spin drain hose was and twice ended up with the first rinse running back into the wash tub, this wouldnt have happend if Id washed with the lid closed though, so my own fault.

But yes a lovely machine and no back ache either, but then again I didnt get the floor washed into the bargain, as with the hoovers.

Servis Supertwin

Great restore Mathew, always good to see pics for the future reference, good job of the rust coating, should last now, as long as it keeps being used as the daily driver and retire those hard ridden Ooovass...

I`ll let you off with inner lid, was always a faff, but as Al says you get used to it!!, This was the last supertwin with the three controls and the indicator lights, the next model 110 going to electric pumps!!

Hi, does your servis supertwin 108 have a lint filter?, all mine has is a round drain with holes in it under the agitator. Im guessing thats it?

john

Lint filter

John

Actually no, I believe that is just a pump guard and should not be removeable. I hate that guard with a passion as it created a rust hole in mine, which thankfully I have been able to repair and enjoy this wonderful machine.

The lint filter is in the upper, removeable part of the agitator, the bit just below the securing nut which sits on top of the agitator. I believe it is rather like the lint fiter in the older Maytag top loaders.

Maybe my clothes dont have much lint (they are mostly washed, beautifully clean, in a front loader) but the filter in mine did not seem to trap much lint.

Al

Ah, thanks mike

now Ive seen the filter, no this 108 doesnt have one. But you can see the water surge through where it would be, so maybe not as effective as the filter flow principle, but it would be a second best.

mathew

cheers mike

Ah I see, no unfortunately my 111 doesnt have the white plastic lint filter either but has the identical two part agitator as mike has shown in the picture.
Were they not all equipped with them then?

Lint trap..

No they didn't all come with the white plastic lint trap, they stopped producing them after i believe the 108 model but i could be wrong on the model number but definitely not wrong on the discontinuation of the making of them, theyre like gold dust now so if you have one keep hold of it.. I scoured every dump site i could to find one which i eventually did, it now sits in pride of place in my Supertwin 110 which unfortunately has the spinner bearings problem, can anyone please PLEASE give me the part number for the Servis Supertwin 110 range for the spinner bearings so i can have some made for it.. its next to useless without a new set and sounds like a jet engine ready for take off, Very hollow and very loud with an echo just to enrich the neighbourhood in which i live... but i need the model number on the bearing set to have them made.. I'll have them fitted by experts as i'm no repairman and won't even attempt to dismantle it to find the wanted number.. Once its up and running i'll add a picture to show it off, apart from the bearing problem its in as new condition.. PLEASE HELP.. Thanks for all and any help you can give .. Paul

Bearings

Paul

Welcome to AW.

I am sure that it will not be long before Mike or Matthew can advise on the correct bearings, they may even have some in their parts stashes. As you can see I am not far from you (see the thread "A New Vintage Washroom) and indeed Paul & Rob are also close (Ripley)so its possible that if Matthew is visiting either of us you could bring your machine over for a repair - the spin can on my 100 is still leaking and I hope Mathew can do a masterclass so I can learn how carry out the repairs myself

Paul

Well as you can see it's quite a job, complete dismantle to get to the bearings.

Also you can see that I had the bearing and shaft replacement complete unit. the actual bearings are standard bearings, up to the 108 they were imperial, the 110 onwards metric. They use 2 6201ZZ, I can send you two of these or you can get them of ebay or an online bearing supplier. The real problem is getting the carbon face seal, they are quite similar to the ones used on the hoover spin dryers, but again those aren't easy to find. you may find when the unit is dismantled the seal could have threads or lint round it or could be cleaned up and work again. So I don't know if you have any local repair shops who may have any old parts lurking on long forgotten shelves, may be worth a few phone calls.

Hope you can get this repair done and that the photos of my thread will be of help.

Mathew

Mathew

I hope ive spelt your name right.. when you say they are similar to the ones used by hoover, does this mean they'll do the job or will it be another hunt? the company im using to carry out the repair is Burton domestics.. theyve been going for years and have a good reputation, i'm just hoping they will have the necessary equipment to finish the job off once its been started..thanks for all your help and the model numbers of the wanted bearings.. you'v been great.. Cheers and all the best - Paul xXx
