It was nothing but pure taste torture hearing these ads, as our family was not spoiled to afford trips to the Sioux City Shakeys. Starting with this 1970 Shakey's Pizza Commercial with Gordon Jump.--Laundry Shark
Hmmm. What a concept! Too bad we still have problems receiving cold delivered pizza, unless we happen to drive in to carry it out or take home and bake for ourselves.--Laundry Shark
There was a Shakey's around when I grew up, but it closed in about 1976 or so. It was fun b/c they had a windowed kitchen with a ramp so the kids could look in. They had a system I was always intrigued with where they wrote your name on a piece of aluminum foil and put it on the pizza (deck ovens rather than conveyors...those really didn't come into play until the mid-80s.)
There was a Shakey's near us when I was in high school, it was a big time high school hangout. You didn't go for the pizza, you went there to socialize! It closed around maybe 1973 or so.
