Speed Queen

I've been thinking about getting a new laundry pair. My current ones are getting pretty worn out and I don't like my dryer at all.

I was thinking about getting Speed Queens. If I understand correctly, they are still built in the USA?

I've also heard the quality is pretty good. I'm looking into getting a top loader washer and matching electric dryer.

What are your opinions?

Go for it!

I've been washing with Speed Queen for 24 years now and haven't ever regretted it.

My current SQ top loader & dryer set is three years old now, and replaced another SQ set that I had for 21 years. There is absolutely nothing about SQ that I dislike, but that's just me. I very much doubt that SQ will be making their current line of TL washers in another 21 years, but if they did, I'd buy again.

I'm pretty sure that we bought our first SQ in 1987

Kleenmaid sold their washers through other retailers and not their own boutique stores then. Our first Kleenmaid branded SQ washer was bought from a major appliance store like Joyce Maine, or Retravision (don't remember exactly which one tho). I do recall that the model we looked at stood right next to a Maytag and we were tossing up between the two.

Speed Queen are back

Speed Queen are back in Australia under their own brand now that Kleenmaid has gone bust!

And at a much more REALISTIC prices than the last overpriced Kleenmaid branded machines!

For instance, just found out the TOL top load Speed Queen can be bought here in Qld at Harvey Norman for AU$1599.00, rather than AU$2500.00 for the same Kleenmaid branded model!

$1599 sounds pretty reasonable

Our first Kleenmaid cost us approx. $800. My current washer was about $1800. We bought that one from the Kleenmaid Service Tech, who came out to inspect our old washer, not from one of the KM stores where we would have had to pay $2500.

Love my SQ - Used as my daily driver....

Quality harkens back to the days of Maytag center dial. I love it! It is a wonderful machine!!!

Tim, yes they're still built in Ripon, Wisconsin.

SQ's are great machines, one of the last vestiges of traditional American quality left in major appliances.

I love my Speed Queens as I have well documented on the boards. I just wish I had more laundry to do! It's exciting when I have enough to do a load. lol

I'm glad I have my YouTube videos...saves on water.

Very happy with my SQ top loader for over 3 years now. While I miss my GE filter flo most dreadfully, I can't argue with the obvious quality and steady performance of this machine. Also SQ customer service is a pleasure to deal with. They know and care about their product.

Speed Queen Service

I will add my two cents here. My dealings with SQ customer service has been top notch. As a matter of fact, I have had more than one follow up to make sure my machines were repaired to my satisfaction. As I type this, I can here water sloshing away from a load of towels washing. The more I use these machines, the more I feel that I made the right choice purchasing SQ.

I bought two Speed Queen sets last year AWN542 and the matching dryer, both for me and my mother. I love them. I recently contacted Speed Queen via e-mail and phone to let them know how satisfied I was, and the national sales mgr., who does the youtube ads for SQ, personally called to thank me for my business.

Mike: We've had the same experience with SQ's customer service. It really is a throwback to the way things used to be, before global markets, planned obsolescence and "the race to the bottom" ruined everything.

DITTO on everyone's comments. Same great service BEFORE the sale, and LONG after. They are an incredible company.

The styling of the machines makes me think of the logic behind the KitchenAid stand mixers...if it ain't broke, as they say. Can you imagine a KitchenAid stand mixer with digital controls and other newer features? I can't. I love the manual controls on my mixer and on my Speed Queen.
