I wish they`d bring back the Liquitabs at a more resonable price.
The first generation was way overpriced, no surprise they`d vanished so quickly again.
As for the multi chambers, this could mean we`ll finally see a liquid detergent with oxygen bleach and enzymes in one and the same product.
Not that I really miss bleach in liquids. Time will tell.

It wouldn't surprise me if Europe's liquitabs get a makeover to look like the US ones which seem to have 3 chambers, or they'll make them a premium version alongside the current ones. P&G love nothing more than a new format, or a premium version of something that already exists!

spiralator60 - If you've used Cascade dishwasher tabs, or Tide stain release tabs, they are roughly that size but a little bit bigger. You use one per wash load, or you can use 2 for VERY heavy soil in VERY hard water areas. They clean excellently.

I'm with jerrod6 and dirtybuck. As I was just going on about softened water, you cannot put a fixed amount in the aforementioned.

I have to say that I agree with some of you guys. Sometimes it's beter to have the possibility to dose yourself the detergent.
Although it must be said that the liquitabs are specially formulated to be optimally effective in quite all the water hardness and soil levels. (except in cases of exceptional dirt)

But still I wouldn't use a liquitab to wash my whites. I might be oldfashioned, but for whites I use nothing else than Powder.
Who knows, maybe some day I will change my mind

@mrwash (Flo): It's interesting how traditionalists are Germans for some things. I remember that the attempt to introduce a Cold Water detergent in Germany was also a major failure like the Liquitabs. I like the way Germans thinks about this, because even though they are very thrifty they still prefer to wash on higher temperatures. ... But probably this applies to older generations and not to the young ones.

Didn't know that about the soft or hard water. Might be a different story then.
I agree with the old people. Things don't come clean in cold water. At least not in my experience.

Back in the early 60's Tide had the packets that disolved.  They were 1/2 cup size to use.  The bad thing was they were too quick to disolve and fell apart if your finges had any moisture on them..  We still had our Maytag wringer and mother bought a box and fussed the whole time.

Surf and Omo pods

Hi Ingemar, here in Australia, we have only got 2 brands in pods at the moment Surf and Omo, I am using the Surf ones at the moment and they are pretty good, the Surf is only front load formula, so in my top loader I use 2 pods for an average load and 3 for a full load.
Their performance isn't too bad, however for a heavily stained load you do need to boost them with a bit of Napisan or some type of booster product, however if the load is only mildly stained they work quite well.
Should start using the Omo ones from next week, and they if you believe the advertising, are boosted with pre-treaters, so in theory they are all you should need.
Overall I am quite happy with them and will most likely keep using them for now.

I know that the Unilever pods has a different dosing.
2 pods for an avarage load vs. 1 pod (Procter & Gamble)
That means that a Box would last less in compared to a P&G product.
But how is the cost? Are over there the pods expensive?

Unilever pods are 1 dose per wash over here, they are a little on the expensive side at full price but they have been on sale quite often. Omo are priced at about $13.00 and Surf at $10.00 both come in a 20 count container. Also Steve Coles and Woolworths have Surf pods in a top loader version available

Also over here the price of the Liquitabs are a little on the expensive side compared with the others format. But Slovenia is something special about the detergent prices. I don't know why but our detergents are among the most expensive. I find that the prices in Italy are much much lower, especially if you buy on sale.

@ Steve (twinniefan): probably you have some Unilever pods like me, because on my Persil from UK as a dosage is indicated to put 2 pods.

Ingemar, recently Unilever changed the size of their capsules and now the dose is 1 capsule per wash. I have here one capsule left from a box of Spanish Skip. I can make a picture of it if you like to see the new size.

The detergents here in Bulgaria are also very expensive and with very low quality. I suspect the situation is the same in the whole former Eastern Block, as the products are the same here in Bulgaria and over there in Slovenia.

It's interesting to know that also in Bulgaria the detergents are expensive.
Yes I agree that the quality sometimes is not the same. But I think that a few decades ago the situation was much much worse.
Now you can find some good detergents also in this part of Europe. I'm thinking of Persil and Ariel.

Liquitabs

Thanks Simon, Ingemar, and everyone else for your responses. The comparison with the Cascade liquid packets really helped in understanding what the product looks like.

One problem that I can easily see happening in the US is someone not reading the label on the container misusing it, claiming to be confused: Laundry detergent being put into the dishwasher, and vice versa.

Also, thanks for addressing the issue of hard water. Where I live this is a big concern as well.

Ingemar, you mentioned that you would not use liquitabs to wash white items. Like you I am a powder user, but are there any liquitabs available where you are that are specially for white items?

Yes they are. Here in Slovenia (but also elsewhere) we have the Regular version of ARIEL (green Liquitabs) that has also brighteners in it and the Color version (purple Liquitabs).

The green one I've posted up here are also for washing whites.

But the reason I would never use a liquid for whites is because the powders have oxygen whiteners and sodium perborat that on higher temperature whitens whites, removes stains and also sanitize the load, leaving a fresh clean scent.
Liquid detergent for whites has optical brighteners that do only a fake feeling of white. It's more an optical illusion then a real white and clean.
