Yes they are. Here in Slovenia (but also elsewhere) we have the Regular version of ARIEL (green Liquitabs) that has also brighteners in it and the Color version (purple Liquitabs).

The green one I've posted up here are also for washing whites.

But the reason I would never use a liquid for whites is because the powders have oxygen whiteners and sodium perborat that on higher temperature whitens whites, removes stains and also sanitize the load, leaving a fresh clean scent.
Liquid detergent for whites has optical brighteners that do only a fake feeling of white. It's more an optical illusion then a real white and clean.

Thanks for the tip Jim, next time I am shopping, I will look for the Surf in top load formula, will start using Omo pods from next load.
Have you seen the new Dynamo and Cold Power smart shot products?, it has a little cup underneath the bottle and you put a dose in and throw the whole cup in the wash, don't think I will try them though, I really do not like Dynamo and Cold Power liquids, they are too thick and gluggy for my liking, I think Radiant also comes in this form as well.

If you round off the price, it comes to about 16.00 for the 20 count box. Add whatever the shipping cost is, and that's also going to hike the price up.

My question: IS IT REALLY WORTH IT (especially if it turns out to be a dud product)?

No, it's not worth it, because it would be too expensive. It can be worth it if you are a collector of detergents and you would like to have also that item, but if you are buying the product for the first time to use it, it's a bit "risky".
