Today we went to an appliance store to get a new screen for our dryer. Well while we were there they were doing a demonstraiton of the maytag neptune TL. Well it was about over the took the clothes out. They were horribly tangled and soaking wet. I felt sorry for the people who were demonstrating it becuase the people just imeadiatly left the store pissed pmf.

i can remember reading CU's review of the Maytag Neptune TL washer-they commented that it tangled clothes badly.I sort of get the impression that it cleans your clothes about as well as your Roto-Tiller.Maybe the machine should be demo'ed to bakeries-they could use it to knead bread and pizza dough.Wonder how it will hold up in the long run-they are so new a service history hasn't been worked up yet. When I looked at one at Lowes(static display) they were asking me when I wanted it delivored!

Yeah...they sure did...in cleaning ability at least. Although it had the highest overall score, CR basically said "Think twice about new-technology top-loaders. Although they have done well in our tests, they're not among our top picks. They are not very gentle on clothes and leave them tangled. Stick with a front loader for an HE machine."
So, go figure....highest rated, but not recommended. That makes sense. (NOT!)

Not recommended

I've seen this happen with products before, where somehting will rate high in all categories, than have some flaw that ovverides everything, and the potential purchaser has to decide if that flaw is mitigated by all the good things.

Which is why we, here, could provide that kind of testing service, by using an objective set of measures & references, and publishing the results in a moderated forum where only publishable results were posted.

And yeah I do feel sorry for the people who were doing the demo.

How the heck does Maytag think they can sell something like that with such an obviously fatal flaw....?

Designgeek-I too feel for Maytag when their reputation has been spoiled by their new appliance designs that don't work.People that have had Maytags before-decide to get another when their old one finally dies.the new one they get could be Krusher food before you know it. I have told freinds, relatives that Maytag products aren't the ones we USED to know.Yes,I think it would be frustrating for the folks who are trying to demo the new Maytag TL machine and they fish out a tangled ball of clothes to show prospects! Like Pulsator-Power-I shop for VINTAGE machines that we know work-and will even outlast the new Maytag designs.
