So, I go to wash my tennies. All they did was float around on top of the water. I even submerged them. Back up they came. This is an Amana (about eight year old) washer. I stood there with a scrub brush to get them clean, then threw them back in to let them float around some more. What would have been the best washer for my Nikes?

and who has one.....?

and what's your address....?

Thanks,

Rick

A front-loader.

Laundromats have ones that can be rented for the short-term at less than $2.

DUCKS AND RUNS!

Hey Toggle,

I just washed 3 pair and was afraid to throw them in the Fl. I figured it would cause a spin problem.

I went to the l'mat and popped them in a TL (like I used to do when we had one here).

Crevicetool (not even going there, and surprized Steve didn't!), mine came out fine even though they, too, tended to float. Nice thing was the l'mat washer beat the ever lovin' crap out of them, so they still agitated, though were repeatedly splashed instead of submerged.

Brought them home, put them in a warm room for a day or so, and they were fine.

Good luck,
Chuck

My IWL12 has a cycle designated for shoes. Preset for 95°F wash water, medium-low level, moderate agitation speed, includes a soak period during the wash. Too high of a water level, shoes float up away from the action at the lower fins, thus I suppose the reason for my machine's cycle being preset for a specific lower level.

Less is More

Lower the water level so there's more vigorous agitation and they'll get rolled over a bit.

Lower the water level so there's more vigorous agitation

Yep, I did the same in my 712. I lowered the water below the 1/2 mark and used the the slower "gentle" agitation speed. Getting the water level spot on is a delicate balance. Not enough water and the shoes will get beat up pretty bad. A little too much water and they just float with little to no rollover.

I would suggest maybe:

Putting some old Sheets in with the Tennies or even maybe some old Towels, they would catch the Tennies and pull them down towards the "Action Fins" of the lower part of the Agitator and hopefully get them Agitated enough to get them real clean.

"BTW" Does anyone know why the Elephant wore Tennies?
Because Ninies were too small and Elevenies were too large...

Peace and Kind Regards, Steve

Sink or swim ?

oh Chuck.. EW!

My ex used to apprise me of colors and shapes and consistencies.

Way too much information!

So, It's a good thing if my shoes are swimmers....

means their getting enough fiber.....

Really? Sure. I'll try and take a couple of pictures of the washer/dryer units tomorrow.

I had added some towels, hoping they would at least get tangled in the laces and drag the shoes down with them but that didn't work either. I'm sure the too high water level was the problem. I didn't think of that. I did have a concern about balance while on spin in a front loader. I could take them to a rental clothes washing equipment facility and destroy their machines instead of some one's I know....

Thanks kids,

Rick

It's time for a new

Front loader!!!LOL I think the water level was the biggest problem too. I have never had a problem with balancing when washing tennis shoes in my front loader. Has anyone else?

Water

How come they don't allow elephants on the beach? Because they run around with their trunks down!

I do mine in the front loader with a load of towels. They mix in and don't throw the machine out of balance. They come out looking like new. Sit them out on the deck for the day and completely dry. If it's raining leave them on the dryer and they are good to go the next day.

GE Harmony

When I had a GE Harmony, it had a cycle specific for shoes. The wash plate and tub would lock together and it would agitate like an old frigidaire agi-tub machine. Quite fun to watch. It did a great job washing sneakers. Unfortunately, I found it rough on other clothing and eventually it went on CL.

sneakers cycle

Indesit (but also Ariston-Hotpoint badges models) machines have a special sport shoes cycle. the wash part has distribution speed, while rinses have slow tumbles.

Also their handwashable wool cycle uses distribution speed in both wash and rinses

Lower water level

Plus my car rags or jeans is how I do it. Leave the laces tied and they usually won't tangle (but not always). If it's not freezading out, put them on your car dashboard to dry and they'll come out white-white-white.
