A dishwasher with a clothes washer attachment. It sounds like it would give you the best of both world's in one machine especially if space should happen to be an issue. But somehow for some reason washing dirty dishes in the same machine that's been washing dirty drawers somehow just seems like a conflict somewhere.

Is it me or am I not alone on this thought?

The dishes . . .

. . . are sanitized by using only Hot water. Then for the laundry, the dishwasher tub and racks are removed and a completely different tub and agitator is placed in the machine. The only place any water is commingled is when the clothes water is spun out into the outer tub and down the drain or the dish water is drained through the bottom of the machine. Kind of like bathing the baby in the sink and then washing dishes by hand. Nobody gives that a second thought.

I have seen one Thor dishwasher used by a friend, and I watched her load unrinsed plates with dried egg into the dishwasher part, and they came out sparkling clean. I always thought it was a good machine and a good idea.

You must remember, this was in the 1940's when folks were using wringer washers for the clothes or the Bendix that had to be bolted to the floor. The Thor could do both clothes and dishes. No bolts. And it spun the water out of the clothes by itself. All the woman did was move the control to "spin."

I think it was a great idea.

Reverse Add Psychology...

Very interesting add promoting totally just the Thor Dishwasher, and then later on when your old wringer breaks down you simply buy the washtub - brilliant!!

All the adds I`ve seen for this machine promote the washing machine first with the addition of the dishwasher attachment!!

Great machines and the dishwasher does a great job with modern detergent...

I've seen these ads before..very cool..but I keep thinking..this was before the invention of pampers....I mean...every family had a ton of pooping babies..washing poopie diapers in the same place the dishes are washed just seems..nasty!!! I'm pretty much out there but this is too much even for me..it's gross!!!!

I've seen a few Thor's dumped in the parking lot resale pile when I was young. Some old ads stated "no part of the Thor that touches clothes ever touches dishes" which may be true, but the pump and internal water hoses share the same water delivery system...no? As far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't a pump that handles dirty diaper water spraying water on my dishes, even hot water. Reminds me of articles that recommend things like wash tennis shoes in the top rack of your dishwasher...yick!

disgusting...

As the owner of two Thor Automagics, I can tell you they really are cool machines. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find the dishwasher attachment yet, but I keep searching.

Once you see both the washing machine and the dishwasher operate, you'll see how there is no contamination between the dishes and the clothes.

Actually, I've seen the dishwasher in action. It really is an engineering marvel.

This is bliss.

If I recall correctly from previous vids & discussions, Thor only uses CUPS of water, literally, for each fill. The DOP would be orgasmic if they were smart enough to know about this dishwasher.

The irony of contemporary clothes washers using only cups of water and not getting the middle of the load wet is so amusing by comparison.

I love the ad. The prettier, sexier, though forlorn lady with a messy mountain of dishes is cast as the loser, while the orderly, proper woman in the severe pumps is the clear winner, even though she has a vacant glassy stare in her eyes probably from her Valium, lol.

But my favorite part is how the sink has magically disappeared, while the faucet remains to fill the Thor.

Wouldn't that Sink & Thor Combo be amazing. Looks like stainless steel. Can't remember ever seeing one before, even in a pic.

Think these machines are one of the real jewels in Aworg's crown. [this post was last edited: 10/14/2013-22:00]

Jerry,

I never saw one operating until looking at YouTube videos. I can understand why I thought the pump assisted the dishwashing function. I guess if you prewashed everything the Thor "might" get your dishes clean.

"The Automagic was widely marketed but disappeared from the
marketplace soon after its introduction, as many consumers soured to the idea of
washing dirty clothing and dishes in the same machine."[this post was last edited: 10/15/2013-12:36]
