We had a Colortrak growing up. That TV was fantastic. My parents got it in 1984; I took it with me when I moved to CT and it lasted until 2004 when a lightning storm took it out. The Toshiba that replaced it is still going strong at the moment.
Jason - the Colortrak and Colortrak 2000(a little higher end) are both great. I'd like to find a Dimensia model, the RCA TOL made until GE bought RCA or sold to Thompson.
Phil, our Colortrak was a great TV. We had to have it repaired in '86 because my dad dropped it; that TV was immensely heavy but was well built. It was working fine until the lightning storm did it in. If our apartment had been a modern one (and not a multi-family built in 1875 with questionable wiring) it might have survived. That place killed so many of my audio and video equipment!
Jason - heavy? lol! Yeah, my Colortrak 2000 is like that...feels about 60lbs...not sure.
That's a shame, about the wiring firing your electronics. You didn't have protection, using a power-strip with the insurance up to enough to cover your costs? I know, they're as expensive as the equipment, at times.
Nice cabinet design. Photography is poor and the subject matter is weird. Looks like it's outside in the elements, hopefully just to snap some pics. Hampton Falls NH, $225.
Motorola must have sold a lot of this cabinet style because I've seen several for sale. This one has "Vibrasonic." My uncle's new 1964 Pontiac Bonneville had that as a factory option labeled "Reverb" on the dash switch. Thought it was such a cool thing. $300 in Heartland/Ann Arbor Michigan.
ad reads - " I have a few antique TV sets for sale so that I can free up some room. They are all complete but need restoration. The first is a 1950 Westinghouse porthole B&W set, asking $75. The second is a 1948 Philco model 48-2500 projection set console. Complete and in good condition, asking $175. The third is a Fada model 930 table model set. Complete and in good condition, asking $175.
If interested, please respond by e-mail and include your local phone number so I know it's not spam. Will make a deal for anyone who wants all three sets. Thanks for looking. "
Those are some very interesting televisions you have for sale. I've always thought owning one of those early projection sets would be very cool. That Westinghouse TV scares me. It looks so very, very old...it was made the same year as I was born.
This one is mislabeled a Magnavox. The cabinet looks flawless. I've always liked those Motorola round tuning dials. This one has Vibrasonic too. In Tucson, $350.
Drexel...they made several TOL cabinets for Motorola. They also made cabinets for early Magnavox models. The cabinet on my 1947 Magnavox Windsor is by Drexel.
Yikes! $1500 or thereabouts...and to think they could be found a few years ago for very little money. Finding one where the speakers don't show through the fabric was very difficult. I suppose if someone really wanted one badly enough they'd pay top dollar. Such kilowatt-hungry things these CG's are.
