I was doing my usual saturday morning wash when i noticed little rust spots on the underside edges of the washer's lid.

What would be the best way to keep this from getting worse?

It really ticks me off as this is supposed to be a porcelain top and lid.The washer is only 2 yrs. old. I hope the top doesn't start to go next.

My previous washer didn't have the porcelain top and it never rusted.

I thought the porcelain tops were supposed to prevent this from happening? If i don't do something about it now it will only get worse.

I guss a little rust remover would help. Any comments would be appreciated.

That's the funny thing. I always leave the lid up after i am finished with the wash.Steel wool would work, as the areas are small.

I will check my warranty on this.I may just replace the whole top,as the porcelain job was substandard right from the beginning.

I had noticed stains on the top of the machine when it was delivered. Sort of like someone had placed something like a cup on the top edge of the machine.

I tried to clean it up,but to no avail. This machine seems to stain badly too. It's nothing major but it is annoying thinking your buying something of decent quality only to have little things like this p### you off.

Naval Jelly

Would naval jelly be a good way to remove this rust without the abrasion of steel wool? Just a thought -- I used naval jelly in the past to clean chrome on cars I had. Brush it on, wait a bit, rinse it off -- then a coat of wax. Might something like this work for your washer?

Just a thought...

Thanks for the tip John, i think i'll just use the steel wool for now. It's not major. I'm glad i noticed it now though. I will need to check the bottom of the machine too.

My machine is in the basement,so i try to keep it clean and dry. That white on white styling shows everything.
