What A Schweet Vacuum

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I picked up a second Elux yesterday, the latest one (in the rear) has a near perfect hose but a worse power nozzle than my first AP280. Then I just noticed that the one in the back doesn't have the name AP 280 on the side like the front one otherwise they are identical. Nice vacs though, very quiet but could use a more agressive brushroll.

Wow guys...I love all of this Convertible talk. My favorites too are the 1060, 1070,and 1076. I think that these are the best of the Convertible series as they looked the best and performed well. I do like the 4 position rug adjuster and it is quite easy to use with a flick of the toe. I find them very durable as I have used my 1070 for years. These all use the rear conversion tools which I have both sets and use them. The newer front conversion tools came out in 1977 with the new line of Convertibles that used the "new" type A top fill bag. This is where my interest drops off because they soon went to the plastic bases and were very noisy. I also enjoy the less expensive models that went with each of these "deluxe" models. All models 1010, 1020, and 1030 were in a color of green and lacked a headlight, zipper, and handle grip. I too detest that foreskin retainer. I much prefer the little "junior" belt retainer. Ever see one of the spring retainers off of a 60 series? They are known to fly off at the operator during a bag change! Thanks for this great thread on the Hoover cleaners! Oh my two cents...the Concept One was one of the best cleaning machines ever built by Hoover. That quadraflex agitator is one of the best in the business!

Oh here are the "standard" cleaners that went with the "deluxe" versions in these years. This is the 1010, 1020, and the 1030 of which Hoover made 10s of thousands and was their bread and butter cleaners. These would often be machines to get people into the store so that they could be bumped up to the more expensive models.

Also there was some interest of the "900" series. I have posted pictures to the 900 on the right and the 925 on the left. The 900 ran from 1931 to 1933 and the 925 took on the classic model 800 look and ran from 1933 to 1936. The 900 had a production of only 7,654 and the 925 had a run of 8,935. These were not just commercial cleaners but considered the "finest Hoover for homes that demanded extraordinary service from a cleaner". These machines had rubber lined fan chambers, ball bearing wheels, two speed motors, headlights, and a heavy duty height adjustment among other quality features. My machines were both found at garage sales locally for cheap! They run great and have replacement bags and cords. The 900 still has its original handle yet but has a deteriorated bumper.

Thanks again for the great thread!

?!?!

did somebody say RUBBER-LINED FAN CHAMBER? what does THAT do? does the rubber survive to this day? was the agitator the same as in other machines? more details pls, and THANKS!

now David...

you really want to know if there's old rubber in that Hoover??

The other interesting thing is the height adjuster, which the bolt thingy for goes right thru the bag outlet...

Pictures please Tom?

Rubber

yes i do. im trying to imagine a rubber lined fan chamber. seems the rubber woulda rotten away a long time ago. was the rubber intended to cushion hard objects? noise? jeff, and about your date? David

Yes, the rubber lined the chamber and was intended to make the machine more quiet. My machines both have the rubber either removed or it just wore away. I showed the views of the agitator and the height adjuster thing. I bet many of these clogged quite easily...I wonder what the engineers were smoking the day that they came up with this design.

Petek,

I really like your sunset orange Convertible model 714...not too many of those out there. You have one of my favorite DAMs too...that 1120 in orange and brown is very sweet.

ugh

That 2nd Concept looks dreadful, rode hard and put away wet i'd say.
Its not too far away from here though...

this seller originally had STOLEN my description, almost verbatim. i sent her a note telling her i saw her listing and thought hers in poor taste. she was contrite and has now changed hers. did i have cause to disapprove? jeff, was that you asking her about shipping? ur not thinking of buying THAT, are you? David

Not me...

I'm pretty well out of room as it is, I either need to find a bigger place or start thinning down some...
I'm not a big Concept One fan anyway....

That lady probably saw the $$$ your Concept sold for and is now listing hers to hopefully have the same haul....

{sigh}

you can't fix stupid
