I'm not a huge fan of the 3 in 1 detergent tablets as they tend to cause foaming/cavitation issues. Also, I like being able to control dosage better by adjusting how much powder I use. Because of using powder I always use rinse aid.

I've always been a devoted Jet Dry user but have noticed with the most recent bottle the rinse foams more than with previous bottles. This is not the "Turbo Dry" version but the regular blue product we get at Costco.

Does anyone have any recommendations or comments about the other products out there? In addition to the Cascade and Ecover products I've also noticed Lemi-Shine rinse aid on the shelves recently. Is any one of them better than the other or are they all about the same?

Thanks
Bob

The water in St. Paul is soft enough that I've never needed a rinse agent until 2 years ago when I started using an Ariston dishwasher which dries by condensation. The Miele I installed in my previous house and all the Kitchenaids I've had before that (including the KDI-21 portable I still have downstairs) never left a single water spot on anything.

I used Jet Dry (the original blue version) for awhile but recently switched to the much less expensive Homelife store brand at our local Cub Foods stores and have been very happy with it's performance. I've been using Seventh Generation detergent for the past 6 years and have been very happy with that too.

Recently, I think my dishwasher's rinse dispenser

has taken an extended vacation. I looked at my usual supermarket this past Friday, and they don't carry the solid Jet Dry. I have seen it recently, but at Wally World, and that means a separate trip. I have used the solid Jet Dry before with good results. I am not sure about the current formula, though I am going to find out soon.

Until the dispenser took a vacation, I was having very good results with the Cascade rinse agent, which around here, is somewhat less expensive than Jet Dry liquid.

My water is on the edge of hardness, and definitely filled with calcium.

I can live with spotty glasses and flatware, but I don't groove on them.

I do use some of the 3 in 1 tabs but even the printing on the box says that you may still need to use a separate rinse aid, but I don't know about foaming because I've never opened the machine during the final rinse. I switch between Jet dry green apple, and Miele rinse aid. I didn't like the jet dry turbo which left a chemical odor in the machine and didn't perform any better than regular jet dry while costing more. I tried Cascade RA but found that it leaves too much scent in the DW. I actually don't see any difference in drying or spotting performance in any of them.

I am not using the rinse aid to prevent spots but I use it to assist in drying. Maybe I will try running a load without dispensing RA just to see if it is really doing anything.

Been using the little baskets of Jet Dry in my KD-12 for years......probably since I restored it back in '99-2000.

I used Jet Dry for years, until they made the formula so thin that it leaks out my rinse aid dispenser on the KDS-14. I am using the Safeway brand, which is the consistency of the old Jet Dry. No problems with it!

Jet-Dry or Cascade

Which ever is on sale.

Tried Ecover once and it was a disaster. Dishes emerged with yibbles and wet in some places. Had to turn on the heated dry cycle for a few minutes after the final rinse to make sure things were totally dry. But this in turn baked on the yibbles. In the end the only thing which worked somewhat was to reset the dw for a second rinse *and* use a portion of the heated dry cycle.

Once that bottle of Ecover was empty and the rinse aid dispenser empty of it, that was that. Ditto for using white vinegar instead of rinse agent as well.

We tried Jet Dry Turbo in our Maytag washer this time. We normally use regular Jet Dry liquid. To tell you the truth, I can't tell any difference between the two of them. The Turbo is supposed to help plastics dry faster, but I can't tell any difference. We'll buy what's on sale at the time.

I switch between Lidl's own rinse aid, and Finish.

Last year I bought a bottle or two of the Finish Lemon rinse aid, but I cannot stand the smell. It seems to be a lemon fragrance with added cinnamon, whereas the supermarkets' own versions appear to smell only of lemon.

I had an empty rinse aid bottle kicking about, so I mixed the standard unfragranced Lidl one with the lemon-cinnamon Finish - roughly 50-50. Still smells quite strongly.

Wavejet. Works as well, if not better, than Jet Dry but without all of the nasty chemicals.

None = I do not use any rinse agent. I just use Cascade complete. I found that I had MORE spots on the glasses using Jet Dry. When the rinse agent low level light goes on,I add water.
