Washing

I wash my bedding, towels, underwear on a 60c wash, and my colourds are washed on a 40c wash.

I use to use Ariel powder, but found it to leave an odd smell, like a musty/chewing gum smell. I switched to Persil & Comfort and find it ok.

Once a month I do a 90c wash, with just bleach & washing powder. The machine is in the garage and has no trace of any mold on the door boot.

I often give the clothes an extra rinse. On my Bosch machine the extra rinse, or extra 2 rinses are very deep rinses as the water is half way up the door. I have been having problems with the machine as sometimes it been showing an err3 code.

Well, now,

After living in Europe for over 25 years now...yes, we do so pre-treat upon occasion.
And soak.

It is true that the US has to put up with very weak laundry detergents, but I really doubt that all those shelves of Gallseife and Oxi-diesesundjenes are there because Metro doesn't mind losing valuable sales territory for the fun of it.

Persil color gel, as mentioned above, is a very good pre-treatment, especially if you have to worry about unstable colors.

Have to agree with Jon and Rob above

I find things like Vanish and other in-wash boosters absolutely useless when a good detergent like Ariel bio powder is used.

The people I know who swear by it seem to supplement it with crappy detergent like surf, own brand non-bio liquids or colourcare products on whites, so it's really not suprising. I suppose it could be useful for the Quick wash and low temperature abusers too.

The only thing I do find useful sometimes are the pre-treatment sprays, but only on the most stubborn stains like the mud and grass on my brothers football kits. I recently rescued my favouite top that had vicks vaporub on it using one too.

The only thing I would disagree with is that my whites are as white as can be at 40c, although I certainly wouldn't go below that.
