I (finally!) made it through my giant container of Tide Ultra Pods with Oxi and I am happier about this than I should be. I think the smell is obnoxiously chemical in nature. They work well but I just can't abide the scent of them and I won't be purchasing them again. I'm not at all sorry to see them go.

That being said, what's everyone's favorite laundry detergent in 2024? I'm thinking about going back to liquid Tide but I'm hesitant because I've heard that liquid detergent doesn't quite make it into the washwater since there isn't a constantly running recirculating pump like there is on older machine. For this reason, I bought pods when I purchased my new TL washer, which is kind of a traditional/HE hybrid. Anyway, hit me with your go-to detergents. Powder, liquid, or pods, and what brand do you all prefer? I'm between Tide Ultra Oxi liquid (it smells waaay better in the liquid formation), Tide Clean Breeze liquid, and Gain Original liquid.

Thanks,

Ryne

Just realize this ended up in the wrong place, meant to click the Super forum and my screen reader had a tantrum. Sorry about that.

I’ve been using Ariel Powdered Detergent for the past several weeks and I really like it.  Everything comes out clean and fresh smelling.  It comes in a huge plastic bag and I pour it into a large Rubbermaid storage container to make it easier to use and  I keep a 1/4 cup measuring cup in the container.  And the price can’t be beat  at $13.99 for 211 oz.

I’d been using Tide Heavy Duty Liquid for about the last two years and thought it was time to try something different.

I just got a box of the Ariel multi but haven't used it yet. Will probably use it to wash cat beds soon. We are finishing up a large pack of tide pods but are planning to switch to the tide free and clear pods next. Still tide powder for the whites.

Regular usage, Persil ProClean 2-in-1 liquid and Persil PowerPearls (remaining from a purchase of several each in 2017).  Will continue when those are used-up with whatever is the current Persil liquid and probably Tide powder.  Ariel Bio powder occasionally (or whatever version is available at HEB).

Less-often, one full bottle remaining of Wisk liquid.

Rarely used, One & 2/3 bottles of Fresh Start powder (dates to 2011).

Mostly Tide with Bleach powder alternating with my remaining stash of Persil Power Pearls, but that supply is running out. I did try a box of the Tide Professional (just opened it and only did a few loads), but it is way too costly for daily use when compared with the Tide with Bleach.

Mrs. V and I are currently using Tide Professional liquid. Cleans great, and the scent is extremely light.

Conversely, we tried the Ariel Multi Powder in our LG front loader. It cleaned terribly, and almost caused suds-lock. On the plus side, it's good for cleaning floors and the bathroom, so that's where it's been relegated to.

I actually tried Persil once before and didn't care for it much. The smell was kind of sicky-sweet to me. That was the original though, so maybe the Persil odor oxi is better. Perhaps I'll give that one a try next time I need laundry detergent, which shouldn't be for quite a while.

I ended up going with my trusty Tide Clean Breeze liquid in the big jug with the pump. In my opinion, that scent is as close as Tide gets to the smell of old-school fresh laundry, and it cleans really well too. :)

Lots of powder fans on here which I kind of expected to see. Unpopularly, I find powder messier than liquid because of the dust that seems to get everywhere when I scoop it out. Maybe I'm just really messy about it, but for some reason I've never had luck in that department. With the liquid in the pump jug I can just keep it on the shelf above the washer. I put a towel under it to catch any drips, and the messy cap just goes in the washer with each load and it's clean at the end of the cycle. :)

Tide powder with bleach.

Thinking about getting a bottle of Tide/Persil liquid detergent as a stain pretreatment only. Been dealing with lots of oil and grease the past few weeks but really don't care about my work clothes being spotless either. Maybe I'll just try some Dawn instead.

Tide powder

Odd enough. I am getting sick of the Tide Oxi pods and Tide White and Bright Oxi liquid we have now. Just way too strong. I can’t stand that the only good scent Tide (P&G for that matter) is Mountain Spring Tide powder.
Now that they stopped making Persil Odor Fighter, I really have no idea other than unscented products or the MS Tide. Not sure I want to use powders on everything, but I know I’m gonna search for a new liquid.

I’ve been using Arm & Hammer Clean Burst liquid detergent for a few years. Has worked great in my Speed Queen front loader stacked laundry center. I sometimes add the Lysol laundry sanitizer to loads of towels and bedding.

Tide powder, the Mountain Spring scent if you can find it, though the Original smells fantastic as well. It's the only detergent on the shelves that I absolutely love the smell of, and it cleans beautifully. I also use liquid Tide just for the cold water washes, and it works great but I just don't like the scent as much. I don't know why basically every manufacturer has gone with such fru-fru overpowered smells, and while the Tide powder definitely isn't the original that it was as I remember it in the 90's, it's still a very nice crisp, clean scent that doesn't knock you over.

I have such a love/hate for P&G because I give them plenty of criticism for their constant messing about with their products and making changes no one asked for, but then every time I try other brands I'm like "DANG I miss my Tide/Cascade/etc" lol

Hey!
Currently have 3 partial jugs of detergent that I’m using up.

-Gain original liquid, like to use on my shower curtain and bathroom mats.
- Persil ProClean, for tough stains and bath towels.

-Arm & Hammer Deep Clean (new formula), for most everything else. Definitely improved over the old formula, cleans well and low sudsing. No 2nd rinse needed. I like it pretty good.
Smells okay, not as strong as the original formula.

I used All Free & Clear liquid for years but the price increase was high, just under Tide & Persil. It’s a good detergent.

Andrew, I concur with your observation regarding scents and P&G in particular. My theory is that not many people, men in particular, don’t wear colognes or perfumes much anymore, so they compensate with the smell of laundry detergents and bath soaps and body washes. I really believe this, plus demographics plays into the equation.

I recently just switched back to liquid from years of using powder. Current Purex 4 in 1 liquid (blue bottle). Smells great and seems to clean/rinse well. But this is coming from someone who used Windfresh... Probably a very cheap powder... Honestly, over they years I was thinking about it and I've used all kinds of detergents and, aside from the smell being different...I don't ever remember being horrible disappointed with any of them...I just thought some smelled much better than others.

I've always HATED Tide... I'd rather use Gain than Tide.

Whatever happened to ERA?

I’ve been running...

Tide powder as my main detergent for the last couple of months. Before that, I had used Gain powder since the start of 2023, and really liked it. Otherwise, I generally use tide original liquid. Once I get through my current box of tide, I’ll probably return to the powdered gain as my main detergent, with the original tide liquid thrown in every now and then.

tide power pods oxi+odor

To me, the Tide power pods with odor+oxi smell disgusting to me. I don't know what it is, but the "fragrance" just strikes me as off putting to me. I gave it to somebody else who doesn't care, along with the old Downy April Fresh that I've used.

Tide with bleach powder for whites or anything that is VERY dirty.

Kirkland powder that comes in the white bucket with the blue lid for colors, darks, not so dirty clothes.

This week I saw the new persil whatever name they give to their pods and bought a large tub to try. I used it. It's OK, but it's not as good as the Persil Disks that I loved.

I also have a large bottle ow Woolite for those super rare loads of delicates.

Arm &Hammer Power Sheets

I decided to experiment with detergent sheets. Thus far, I have been impressed with the results although needing to get a tiny size Tide liquid from Dollar Tree for when I wash one item on my hand seems somehow to counter their convenience.
