First Agitation Test

 
<span style="font-size: medium;">I ran the machine on the Super Wash cycle, wow, it's not kidding. I dunno what that would do to clothes. It's not connected to any hoses or drains yet, so a full test is coming up. The water overflow bag has a small tear in it. While machine was off for about 20 minutes with some water in tub,I discovered a small leak. Seems to be coming from the outer tub, will have to take closer look. </span> There is some rust on that side of the pan, so this leak was going on for some time I suspect. I hope the source of the leak isn't anything serious.

i think if you have stain clothes or small load this will be a perfect washer to use and aspecaly if you have stuff that needs an all night soak before being wash in your main daily driver the washer in the picture is the belt drive version of the washer you have its with the matching dryer

On Mine The Leak Was The Tub Seal

One parts order and a cursing repairman later all was resolved! *LOL*

<span style="font-size: medium;">While the machine has a smaller capacity than my Maytag 107 (my daily driver), it certainly has more cycles. So far, it is going to need a lid bumper, a spring replacement kit, a new overflow bag, a seal (I hope) to stop the slow leak, the knob that selects the water level (the escutcheon is missing), a new, correct, quick connect faucet hose and drain hose, some POR-15 to stop the light rust on the right side of the pan and some touch-up paint. It's got a new power cord, plug and grommet.</span>

Something New Has Been Added

Yes, am adding something new to my collection thus following the advice of sage elder collectors, something must go when something new arrives.

Suppose if one had the room would keep the WP as it completes the matched set with the dryer, but alas space is at a premium laundry appliance wise.

Besides never really used the WP that much anyway. Maybe once or twice every month or so, of that. Guess just am not a top loading sort of person. *LOL*

Real push is due to wanting to take the workload off Big Bertha (Miele W1070). Am getting tired of MieleUSA's attitude about repairs and or spending a hundred or more every year when this or that part goes and requires replacement. My main worry are the bearings and motor, once either goes BB is toast. So think its better to give her a playmate.

My machine is a bit older than yours and has the same "Surgilator" as it's big sisters along with the "bed of nails" waterfall lint filter.

Portable DD Washer

These are very tough little machines, the lint filter in these washers is a great design, it is easy to clean, effective and it is completely out of the way. Outer tub center seal leaks are VERY rare in DD washers, I would look carefully before tearing the machine all apart. The plastic overflow bag-tube can just be thrown away, it is very unlikely that it could ever serve any important purpose.

Tough Little Machine

When I worked at Whirlpool from 1985 thru 1989 I borrowed one of these from the Wet Lab" and used it when I living in an apartment. I returned it when I left the company. My model did not have stepped-down agitation and an Engineer warned me not to select too long a wash time. It did a great job. I was able to get a full size set of sheets in one load. Two weeks worth of whites made a full load as well as a week's worth of towels. Presently I have a Kenmore version of the machine that my next door neighbor gave me. I seldom use it but it brings back fond memories.......

<span style="font-size: medium;">John, the leak seems to be coming from where the outer tub is attached to the suspension rod (see reply #30).  I have to fill it up with water again and let it sit. Then with a flashlight track the leak down. </span>

Leaking WP DD Compact Washer

The good news is that if this machine is leaking at the center post seal this is a much easier repair than the older BD machines with a metal outer tub. I mentioned earlier I have almost never seen a leak at this seal and when we did it was usually because the screws that hold the plastic outer tub were loose or the suspension tri-pod was broken.

 

All you need do to fix this is remove the white plastic cover, agitator and inner wash basket. Then un clamp the drain hose from the outer tub remove six 5/16" head screws that hold the plastic outer tub to the suspension tri-pod and lift te tub out of the washers cabinet. then if it looks like it has actually been leaking at the center-post seal remove the old seal and clean it thoroughly. Normally this seal can be reused unless the rubber has deteriorated. When every thing is clean and dry apply a small bead of 100% silicone sealant on the grove where the rubber seal meets the outer tub and push the rubber seal into the plastic tub. Then apply two rings of the same sealant around the outside of the center post about 4" and 6" up from the bottom of the center-post column and push the tub and seal down into place and screw it in place, it will never leak again, John.

<span style="font-size: medium;">I filled it with some water and let it sit. Nothing, no leak. So I suppose this leak was from it during the earlier agitation. The pic's show where it was wet originally and where the water trail was. </span>

I would remove the white plastic cover and make sure that the black rubber seal is in place and in good shape.

<span style="font-size: medium;">Well tonight, I going to hook up and run a complete cycle. I haven't done anything to it yet. Want to make sure what is leaking before I tear it down. Video will follow. </span>

<span style="font-size: medium;">First trial fill and agitation. Gentle cycle. Hot wash, some old rags with Sears Ultra Plus detergent. Other than a new power cord, nothing else has been done. I am trying to determine where the slight leak is coming from. </span>
