Good questions, and a tough one!
My answers are based on giving mine enough time to establish that the repair would actually be viable for any normal type of usage. Time will tell!
A) I may contemplate it, if people were willing to send the drum unit to me then I would access it to see if it may last or be too far gone (the spiders).
B) I think really depends on the assessment of the drum assembly. Due to the size of the bearing and tightness, I don't have a decent size of extractor that would cut a lot of the time and effort out. However if there was demand then I would invest in one. It would probably be approx £85 in parts for the main bearing, main seal, and the inner bearings and seal.
