Wish Me Well!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm relocating from Atlanta - where I was born and have spent most of my life - to beautiful Waterloo, Iowa. I leave tomorrow, and will be there by Sunday afternoon.

The reasons are many, but mainly I like the Midwest and Midwesterners, and it was time for a change. Atlanta's a megalopolis now, which isn't my idea of fun, and I recently lost someone, so moving on feels right.

I'm looking forward to meeting a lot of you in that general area, like Ben (sweztoyz), who has kindly offered to host me for a couple of days while I get my bearings, Greg in Omaha, and Robert in Minneapolis. I'm also hoping I'll eventually get to meet all the Iowa contingent including Jim in Bettendorf, Cory in Cedar Falls and Laundryshark in Cedar Rapids. If I've forgotten anyone in Iowa, be sure and give me a shout out.

I've disposed of the contents of the house here, so I will have the fun of haunting thrift stores, yard and estate sales and Craigslist without guilt! And of course, Iowa is a great place to find vintage 'Tags (please, Lord - a white A108 and a white DE 606 - it's all I ask).

I'll keep everyone posted and post pics as news and finds come to pass!

Looking Forward to It!

I think the greatest thing about all this will be re-furnishing and re-equipping, almost from scratch. For years, I've had to be very careful about what I wanted, because I had so much already, and new acquisitions invariably caused space problems. So, I won't have that to worry about - for a little while, anyway, LOL!

I kept the kitchen stuff, linens, some lamps and a couple of small pieces of furniture, none of which will make the trip up for a couple of months. So - it'll be every collector's dream - lots of wide-open spaces to fill up!

I'll be concentrating mainly on Truman-era appliances - the early '50s. I have my sights set on a Dormeyer Silver Chef mixer, a Crosley radio, Dreyfuss 302 telephones, that sort of thing.

It's gonna be fun.

Although the Trueman administration had some of the best appliances, I still have a soft spot for Eisenhower administration appliances and, of course, Roosevelt administration finds. You can never go wrong with a 302.

This baby - a 1951 Philco clock radio. My parents had one exactly like this; Dad won it at an IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - his union) picnic, if I remember the story correctly.

Lora Mae? lol lol lol You don't strike me as the gold-digger type, Sandy! I suppose I fit the Rita mold, but I could never match Ann Sothern's comic timing. And I must agree, the Truman administration had the BEST appliances. Step into my home and your are transported to 1948, bark cloth draperies and all.
