Another one followed me home. I have wanted a KA dryer with a window door since I saw one on this site several years ago. Guess what popped up around the corner from me on Craig's list :) It is very nasty and needs a ton of TLC, but it has a window in the door --and the ability to turn the light on while running!! The picture is from the Craig's list ad--I was afraid that was a rust spot on top--thankfully just dirt. Did I say it was nasty?

They had a KA washer to go with this, not a match. It looked like it had been dropped fortunately I was able to purchase just the dryer--thankfully!

I need a spring project and hopefully this will foot the bill.

A few years ago we were building our new home in the mountains of New Mexico, a very remote location. We lived in a small trailer onsite during construction. I couldn't stand going to the laundromat (50 miles away), so bought a used Kitchenaid washer for $200 and set it on a couple of pallets outside the trailer. It was my forest laundry room.

I hooked the washer up to an outside faucet and used the trailer's exterior shower to get some warm water in each load. I strung several clotheslines on nearby trees and hung everything to dry. After each laundry day I let the tub dry, then wrapped the washer in a tarp secured with bungees. When the weather dropped below freezing we would leave for the winter and I used RV antifreeze to winterize the washer, then covered it with extra tarps.

The washer worked great for several summers (slow DYI construction), and when the house was finished I bought a new Maytag Bravos set and gave the KA washer to one of the neighbors. He recently told me the washer is working great.

I think you will like your KA dryer, congrats on your acquisition.

It looks good! I've been thinking about getting one of those doors, hopefully from a donor dryer that otherwise isn't worth saving. It should fit on a dryer that matches our Kitchenaid washer. I've been looking for a matching dryer located not too far away, but so far haven't come across one.

Thanks!

Our current daily driver dryer is a KA gas model that has been a fairly decent machine and is from around 1999. I purchased it at a Sears Outlet. The most recent job on it was a new timer.

You guys have good eyes---does this washing machine I found on Craig's list look like the mate to the window door dryer?? It does to me, but another set of eyes would be nice!

Thank you!!

That is the same ad the dryer came from

Thanks Phil!

The funny thing is that these are the people I bought the dryer from. The washer appears to be a little newer and I do not think they are a matched set--based on what I observed. The dryer has chrome rings around the knobs and the graphics are different, and I swear I think the height of the console is a bit different, with the dryer's being a bit shorter.

I examined this washer and it is in rough shape--the picture you posted sort of tells this poor guy's hard life--notice how the console is lifted on the right side. What the picture does not show is that it appears something fell on the console as the middle top section has a really bad dent--to the point that the sides popped out and the screws that hold it in place came out of their holes. It is also scratched heavily.

The other concerning thing is that the right side of the machine has a huge dent where it appears it may have been dropped on the rear corner. It was so bad that the corner of the back had popped loose of the base and is "flapping in the wind".

The other thing is when I lifted the lid, there were chunks of mildew hanging off of the rim at the top and it absolutely reeked--it was absolutely nasty. That did not deter me too much as that could have been dealt with easy enough, but the rough shape of the cabinet and console sent alarm bells ringing in my head. Not to mention that they had it on the porch, not hooked up--but I could rest assured "it is a good machine that works and well worth the price being asked"--I am quoting the guy.

I'll keep looking---thank you again for taking the time and looking too! I really appreciate it!

Like live moss in the Everglades, eh?

You're welcome Mitch. I thought it was the same ad, because that windowed dryer is a bit rarer to find.

I can now see the right side lifted up, but your visit reveals more than this "good machine that works" photo reveals.

I like that washer-if it was in better physical condition, I think it would need a thorough cleaning and any lubrication along the way - how long did it sit outside? Any access in the back for pitter-critters(small rodents, my id). :-)

You'll find the match.

Thanks Mike!

I texted the seller and have not heard a work back from her :(. If that ad is still up I think I may just call and leave a message. Of course I asked in the text if she would be willing to separate the set and I may have scared her off.

Phil--I got the feeling they had just moved in as boxes were all over and I do not think these appliances had been outside long.

It was a good day--72 degrees here and I finally had time to disassemble the dryer and dig in. The worst thing was it appeard liquid detergent had leaked all over the interior--what a bleeping mess to clean that up! It also reeked of cheap after shave, no idea what that is about! The center roller was tight and noisy with a hand twist. Thankfully, I had a maintanence kit with new rollers, pulley and a belt. I went ahead and installed it after cleaning. I am not normally bothered by scents, but whatever had been cooking in that dryer was over the top!

Hopefully I can get her online soon!

Thanks again!!

Thinking Hai Karate

with a bouquet of Rexall brand thrown in the mix as well :) Thanks for the chuckle!

I had also wondered about stray lubricant too:).

I think I may be ready to plug it up this weekend! I ordered a 3 prong cord off Amazon that arrived yesterday. We got hit with another cold snap so I have not had the gumption to get back at it! I am so over winter! I know you guys in the north and mid-west are too! I am so ready for shorts and tees!
