I just wanted to say that I think I judged this machine to soon in a negative way. I believe there is a difference in Kirk's machine and Eugenes. I want to buy this washer now. I don't know if spats bears comment is true and speed queen is just using parts to get out of the market, but to me, when we all seen the videos of how they were testing the machines rows after rows of machines on a production line for months on end, it seems to me that they don't want to stop making the machines. I know people will never give this machine a chance, but I for one embrace the changes now that I have seen Kirks videos and I hope everyone else will too. Things change, and if they work by washing in a different way so be it. I have never seen a more balanced top loader spin, and I love the way it sounds when washing. I just wanted everyone to know that I'm sorry i had negative comments to say about this machine, and while not perfect I think its pretty darn good.

 
interesting theory....and there could be others as well...only time will tell...

as were not why exactly they did a change over of the TLer for 2018....as if they wanted to get out of the Residential lineup, they could have stopped at the 2017 model....then again, maybe the 2018 model will only show up in hotels/businesses/commercial coin op type of service...

possibility of too many regulations from the DOE, not worth the hassle of dealing with a residential setup.....

machines put into Commercial use, such as a laundromat don't seem to be governed with strict regulations like a home machine....

from a business standpoint, it has always been better to deal with Commercial clients, rather than residential customers...if you were running a business, and had to dal with both, I KNOW which one you would prefer...
 
Speed Queen 2018 comparison!

From my viewing and watching a few GM adjtub videos I did observe some turnover! My point is if SQ designed a different agitator for this machine it might work better! Any opinions or input?

Try it before you buy it.

If any of you want to try it I encourage you to stop by my shop with dirty laundry in hand. If you like the machine I’ll sell it to you for less than what I paid for it. Heck, I’ll make you a super deal on the set.

1: no dealer on the internet is going to shit on this washer. The margins are too good to let the brand go. Thankfully making money comes second to my reputation..

2. Washing small flexible items such as tee shirts is not a good test. The very first load I tried on the 2018 was a large load of hand towels and it did ok. Washing 5 pair of blue jeans that have been washed 1,000 times before isn’t very valid. Wiping a bit of mud on them and washing them for over an hour with extra rinse is just insulting your intelligence.

3. I never said this washer doesn’t work. It just doesn’t perform well on a variety of different loads. There are better performers out there. The 2018 is the most reliable.

4. My washer is definitely not broken. It functions as designed and works at the same speed as kirks.

5. Finally, I’ve spoke with a few other dealers in private, they all agree that this machine is not very good. See point #1 for why you will never hear about it.
 
It's strikingly similar to the rollout of emissions regs on gas vehicles and later diesel vehicles. The first emissions saddled vehicles were terrible but automakers eventually got it right. Diesel regs came later and they're still figuring that out with SCR and Urea, EGR, and DPF and trying to cheat but getting caught. The point is the 2018 SQ may be a misstep as they're figuring out how to maintain cleaning performance of pre-2018 machines while meeting 2018 regs and I hope they'll get it right eventually. SQ's quality doesn't seem to be in doubt these are well-built machines that will last they just need to get the cleaning thing down which is kind of important for a washing machine. It's nice to see the SQ commitment to quality continue but the best build longest lasting machine isn't worth much if it won't clean well.

The 2017 Speed Queens or 2015 or earlier depending on perspective are the holy grail of pre-2018 DOE regs machines like the 2006 Chevy LBZ Duramax, Ram Cummins 5.9 and earlier mechanical version, and Ford ummm well the 7.3 was great but that 6.0 not so much.
 
What kind of dirt exactly lies on those jeans? Are the "wet" spots some kind of stains or are they just wet? If the stains were severe then wow it did a great job! If not, not so. Fresh mud shouldn't be a chalange. I allways judge a washer based on the ability to spotless wash whites without bleach.

I feel that CR and other review facilities should use detergents such as Tide Simply. These detergents have no enzymes or oxygenated bleach, which requires the machine to use mechanical action and temperature to clean. These speed queens might do OK with enzymes and a long wash time. However, I do not feel this would be the case with Tide Simply, etc.
It is sad to see how the EPA is neutering some of our products, however, in the long run it will be beneficial to us all some way or another despite our frustrations.
 
Detergents

I don't really see what your agrument is about people using this detergent or that one, i mean come on if a detergent works it works and helps clean the clothes at the end of the day. I use a premium detergent like persil or tide or tide pods...and they do very well. I just know that a lot of people are going to be mad as hell here if this machine does well. Most people have normal clothing soil levels and pretreat them and use a premium detergent. I feel like I'm not 100% in love with the new queen, but i do like it a lot. Based on the spinning alone, quality of build and my own clothing soil levels, i am fine with this product. I have heard multiple people say Eugenes machine was a prototype that was not a part of the final production line model, and it had been dissasembled and assembled multipe times. it seems different to me is all i'm saying. if it isn't I aplologize, and if this was a prototype I think they should make it right with eugene and send him a production model to review and give him another chance. there are a lot of negaitve hateful people in these forums i've noticed with not a lot of good things to say about much of anything, and that's sad. if this machine is a bust we will all see it VERY soon. nothing cleans better than a front loader that is allowed to use more water, but we can't have that here in this country. So i'll take what I can get, and i am pleased with this machine so far. It doesn't make sense that SQ would release a shitty machine thats half baked, and I believe a lot of people won't know how to use this machine or won't use a good detergent and they will scream it doesn't work. you can't fix stupid.

How much wash water turbulence does the change in rotation direction cause, and how effect is that turbulence to cleaning the cloths?
That is my question on the new SQ.
What if it actually cleans most dirt from most cloths better, but does so in less dramatic a fashion unpleasing to those used to standard TL washer dynamics?
That's what I wonder about this design and others like it.

If it is, "just an H-E TL washer", at least it will be a reliable long lived one...can we say that?
 
Eugene very clearly stated recently that his machine is not a pre production model, but a very early production model. Anyone comparing the videos between his and others can clearly see they behave the same. TBH I don't think there's even much that could be changed if they had reprogrammed it.

If you happen to like yours then more power to you. I for one think one can do much better for the price they're asking.
 
I will officially reconcile...

I will officially reconcile with Speed Queen after the latest video I saw. I believe what is happening is the torrents are sweeping the ground-in tough dirt out of the heavy denim. A lot of us are used to the 1980's style of cleaning laundry which involves scrubbing with brute force of the agitator.
Great job Speed Queen!
