And another year has flown and we are meeting up at Als Emporium over our final August Bank Holiday of 2018, as plans go with vintage appliances "There Are No Best Laid Plans" we had thought that this hols would be an open showcase of everything shipshape and tickety boo but life goes on and time runs away...So a small gathering of the "Get Stuff Sorted" party ensued and another work and fun weekend took place.
Getting stuck into the Line of Hotpoint Toploaders are Steve (SESteve) and Danny, this 1502 toploader was given to us by Mark Hill who he and his dad ran one of the last Hotpoint Service centrs in and around Norfolk and
Mark moved to Malta last year. Its a solid machine and is one of the quietest every made having a cast gearbox which the later series didn't.[this post was last edited: 9/1/2018-09:01]
And heres Phil (ServisSlimline) and Chris (ServisChris) getting stuck into their (and mine) favourite laundry appliances. This was Servis UK first front load auto washing amchine. Its was sold as the "Most Compact" at only 22.5 inches wide and still taking a 9lb washload, given the Bendix Giromatic wash in a 30inch cabinet this fitted into British homes with ease. Its needing a new door boot and bearing which are still original from 1972.
Meanwhile outside on the patio we are getting stuck into spinners wringers and an AEG Favorit Dishwasher which will be fitted into the 1970`s all original AEG Electric Sink Unit complete with fitted dishwasher and automatic washer and tumble dryer.
L - R Ian (Triumphdolomite) Richard (Ricky5050) Darren (Slowspin66) and Mather (Keymatic3203)[this post was last edited: 9/1/2018-09:02]
Heres me n Steve getting stuck into the "Tub in and out" scenario , we got the outer tub painted last time but a little leak on the tub bellows had us hauling it out to do a more permanent repair.

With the washer outside we took the tub apart, now Steve has done many repairs on these machines and I like others said was always daunted by how to take it all apart, which was quite easy when the teacher is methodical and says "Right, Your Turn" lol..
Here we see the top console flipped over onto a chair so we don't need to disconnect all hoses n wiring , with inner tub removed we proceed to taking out the outer vitreous enamel tub, this was the last series for the 1970`s with metal tub, from this point on until the 90`s the outer tub was polypropylene.
Meanwhile Phil and Chris move onto another Servis that appeared to throw water out, so the lads went into diagnostic mode but then it appeared to cured itself , bizarre, but hey its a vintage appliance. [this post was last edited: 9/1/2018-09:03]
The AEG sink is having a thorough test after needing an inlet valve and pipes along with work done on the main pump n motor, this will sit under the sink as a design unit.
Meanwhile its time for "more tea and cake vicar"...Matts Battenburg cake was such a hit last time that supplies were requested along with Steves Millionaires Shortbread... [this post was last edited: 9/1/2018-09:03]
In the old washroom here are the appliances stacked up ready for the "Spa of Ian" treatment, plenty of hot water and elbow grease to finally get rid of the builders dust. !![this post was last edited: 9/1/2018-09:04]
Ready to start re-assembling the Hotpoint toploader. Outer tub on, heater clamped and sealed and new pump canvas drive fitted and sealed to outer tub. !!
Inner tub in situ with tub block and over bellows fitted...now for a water test. The Hotpoint uses a small low down agitator block to fit under the base of the plastic Spiraclean agitator.
Well its time for dinner, the day goes so quickly at these meets. Al has been busy in his new kitchen preparing a meal for the workers. And all ready and keeping warm in the "Hostess Trolley"...
So after breakfast a few of us went over to Garys place to collect a few machines he was passing on, that's the beauty of this hobby, fix up, restore and recycle.
So Jon & Danny in one car and Mikey n me in together and guess what we all saw at a crossroads and immediately there was a screech of brakes...
On many petrol forcourts are these vending laundry systems, From Kis Laundry systems come an 8kg and 18kg washing machines, soft mounted with fast spins and an 18kg tumble dryer, they dispense autodose Amway detergent. [this post was last edited: 9/1/2018-09:07]
