Bug Report #6 New "Program Computer" Thread Memory with Cycle Signal Indicator Lights

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Works for me!

I like it but I have one question...

What if you like to have the 'extra rinse' option available? Is there an option for a warm rinse? Hee, hee, hee...

RCD

Excellent!

This is the one option I really wished for here. It's used on many, many other sites that use basic off the shelf software, glad to see you wrote your own code to accomplish it.

One quibble, the buttons seem a tad large, perhaps my eye just needs to get used to seeing all the buttons to the left of the thread.

Anyway, well Done!

A Very COOL addition Robert!!

However..........

It works just fine on my PC at work (XP Pro, Explorer 6.0 etc), however, on my Mac here at home, it doesn't.

In Safari (4.0.5) it shows the Wash, Rinse & Spin buttons, but it's stuck in the "Wash" cycle. Meaning it's always lit, regardless of how many times I try "advance the cycle" by going into a thread or how I get back to the index page. Also the Blue thread links stay Blue too.

In Firexox (3.6) it doesn't show the "Program Computer" at all. The Blue thread link does turn Purple once I've visited the thread tho.

I did check to make sure the Javascript was enabled in both Safari and Firefox and it is.

Thanks!
Kevin

I found this:

It works with Mac OS 10.6.2 and Safari 4.0.4 / 4.0.5

It works with Mac OS 10.4.11 and Firefox 3.5.8

It doesn't work with Mac OS 10.4.11 and Safari 3.1.2

For Mac Users

Hmmm, strange it works just fine on both my mac (1.5 years old) and Fred's mac (4 years old).

I'm in Safari 4.0.5 and it works just fine here. Be sure not only that Javascript is turned on but that cookies are also turned on and that the browser is actually saving cookies.

Also be sure you are logged in, otherwise it wont work.

And when its not working be sure you are at the page:

the browser will automatically redirect you to this page if it cannot perform Javascript functions:

Oh and the other thing I want to mention is if you used to working with Internet Explorer at work and come home to Safari or Firefox, if you use the back-arrow to go back to the index from a thread, IE seems much smarter about refreshing the page automatically. Firefox and Safari will not refresh until you hit the reload button. That is why I never use the back arrow, I always hit the [back to index] link from the threads which will refresh the index page.

Title?

Hey is there any way to get the actual thread *title* in the browser title bar along with / instead of "Thread # 12345"? Or has that been discussed and vetoed before?

Done, check it now. Designing on the fly is fun! :-)

Eric, thank you for that drawing. Actually I tried using only one light in my experimenting, but then you lose the functionality of being able to chose where in thread you want to land. Granted I agree it's a bit busy, but so are some washer control panels that I can think of, not to mention other forum websites like this one, now that design is what I'd really call busy.

As for the size I purposely made the lights large because many of our members are older (or getting older ;-) ) and it seems when I make things smaller I get a lot of complaints about people not being able to see it very well. Ten years ago I wouldn't have given it a second thought, but now as I'm getting close to 47 my eyes aren't as good as they used to be so I can sort of understand where some of the members are coming from.

Eric, if I remember correctly you're a mac person, is the functionality working ok on your end?

Oh, and the lights appear to work fine in Safari on a Mac. Does everything get reset back to baseline whenever you push code? I noticed they were all at default when I went to Super but then after I posted my message above, backed up and hit refresh this thread lit up.

Probably not, although on things like my iPod which doesn't save cookies once you turn it off they all will reset to wash. Let me know if that keeps up.

I noted the wash/rinse/spin button didn't update if I just used the back button, but worked OK if I used the Back To Index button or refreshed the index page. I'm using OSX 10.6.2 and Safari 4.0.5, and FireFox 3.6. I wouldn't expect either to redownload the page when I hit browser-back, I would think it would reload my cached page.

Just after I uploaded the pic, I thought crap... that text is too small. Some of us 33 year olds don't have the best eyesight either, so I completely sympathize. One of my thoughts was to make the largest, most colorful text show just the thread title, clear of all other information, and to put the rest into a single line under that. I'm just roughing out ideas really as they pop into my head.

I totally understand what its like to deal with limitations of a database. I've been banging on mine for years and still, sometimes, I just have to give up, go home, sleep on it, and let my brain do the work overnight. Goodness knows the transition to a database under the site must be a helluva job, and I give you credit!
